I'd go for a Sounblaster Audigy (I have an Audigy2)

I've personally never had a problem with a Soundblaster card, they always install easily and do a decent job.

If you're moving up from either on-board sound or another soundcard remember to remove the software/drivers of whatever you are replacing before you start installing (some Onboard sound needs disabling in your bios settings)

Hope this helps...

Im off for a couple more paracetamol and a medicinal Scotch- dont you just love the Flu-Argggh!!

Got an Audigy 2. But it won't let me update the drivers

What are your security settings like?. A combination of XP and computer security software like Norton can trip you up.

I too have had the Audigy 2 for several years (now known as the Audigy 2 Value). Must be a software issue Menace. I have updated my card to the latest beta version with no problem.

If you want to install the complete suite of applications for this card, you cannot skip your original software that came with the card. In other words, you cannot just install the latest software suite directly from their site. Maybe this is what you are doing?
