Need Scotch advice
I figured you guys would be the best source for this information. I am currently trying to turn my friend into an alcoholic. He never really drank beer before so we went out to eat, and he asked me for a suggestion so I told him corona to start him off easy. He tasted my guinness and his next beer was one. I think there is good hope for him yet!
What scotch should I introduce him to, I have had Glenmorangie, Glennfidich, Johnny Walker Blue Label, and Chevas Regal Royal Salute.
So I'm up for suggestions. I plan on bar hopping with him next weekend and introducing him to Black and Tans.
So what should I get for a good scotch? keep it under $150 please.

I'm more partial to the "highland" single malts. THey don't seem to have the iodine taste that some of the others do.
Johnny Walker is a good "screw top" scotch. Glenlivet, McCallan,(sp?) Glenmorrangie, and The Balvenie are damn good in my book. I REALLY like the Glenlivet with the French Oak finish and The Balvenie Single Cask. They are a bit more $$ wise than the regular stuff.
Good CHEAP Scotch is BELL'S, Unfortunately, it's not available in the states. Famous Grouse isn't bad if you're on a tight budget either.
Royal Salute huh? Show off.
HIGH $$ stoof that is..

Laphroaig is one of my all time favorites, though I've only ever found the 10 year. Glenlivet is another old standby. I enjoyed another one called Dalwhinnie.
I enjoy the single malts for their strong flavor. I can't disect the flavor into bits like some scotch afficianados can, though I can taste a smokey "peaty" flavor in the Laphroaig, that I really enjoy.
All this talk is making me thirsty. Is 1130 too early to start drinkin'?

You've got red on you.

'Jack Daniels' you say.
The last time I had a skinfull of that I was saved from freezing to death by a very nice policeman who woke me up and told he was not going to let me sleep all night on the picture house doorstep. We had a quiet, polite and possibly incoherant conversation, he then offered me some overnight accomodation which I was forced to accept.
I suppose it was for my own good!
Never touched the stuff again!

JD for me Ya'll
Nothin like a strong Jack D and coke (the kind ya drink) and I'm good to go. My favorite high ball drink.
My Ex drank so much of it one night in college that she hasn't been able to touch Jack D sense. Just the smell of it make her a bit sick.
As for me, I like it now and then, expecially in Egg Nog this time of year....
hic,
Mic
