Re: the landings...
Great stuff!!
I remember trying to get an Aeronca Champ down one day when we had a 40MPH crosswind.
After about 5 attempts and "chicken" outs (Managed to get one wheel down for a few feet before it got too crazy) and waddle back around, I said screw it and landed on the East/West taxi-way. I announced on the radio that I would be landing on Runway 27. The turd in the tower said there was no RUNWAY 27. I told him there is now, and to look to his left and he's see where it was as we taxied by.
A friend of mine came in after we did and landed on Runway 19 ( a real and the active runway ) in a cub. He got her down and about 50 feet after he landed it, it weather vaned into that west wind and he went off the runway, through a large puddle and we asked him later if thought he was a submarine. He hit the puddle with enough speed that water went over the top of that little cub.
We both got bitched at by the tower turd, BUT we were drinkin beer before he was that day.
