Another point here. Since some or maybe all of the '46 add-on planes never actually flew, then the flight physics will not be historically correct, so I expect some warp-speed uber planes stuck in there (beam me up, Scotty!).

Maybe I'm just being picky, but Oleg's plane set choices left me out in the cold. I was glad when the Ju-88 became flyable and was hoping that like Janes WW2 Fighters, ground troops would've been added. And even he could've tweaked Mission Builder to include triggers like in MS WW2 CFS. Now that was some thing that was never copied. You had freedom to add triggers. But alas, I wished for too much.

I'm not sure why they are giving us sci-fi planes when there are plenty of things from WW2 that alot of us have been wanting since day 1, mainly the heavy bombers lol

Looks like we'll be getting Battlestars in the new ep, perhaps we'll be dogfighting x-wings and complain that the lasers are over-modelled and how there is no way they would totally annhilate a 109 in once burst.

Ok maybe not that sci-fi but hey, that does sound interesting ^^

Oh and would people please stop mentioning BoB! you know what'll happen, we'll all be excited and counting the days and be totally suicidal once we get it and it sucks eggs!

Does anyone know where it can be preordered - the all in one thingy?
I mean all PF+FB+AEP Plus Pe2/46/Munchuria addons.
I'm sceptical about these Xwings and Tie Fighters in 46' Addon, but new maps in Manchuria, burma...sounds very very kewl.

Mr Macca

I'm not sure the complete show has been compiled yet.

There is a lot of history around the plane sets, particularly what was done by 3rd party modellers. When the sim first came out there were a lot of optimistic pronouncements made about people adding additional planes to the sim by doing the modelling themselves. IIRC there was a list of planes on the Ubi site and people could "reserve" which ones they were going to do. Human nature being what it is, many of these reserved aircraft were either never completed by the 3d modellers who reserved them, or the models were not up to the standard required by Oleg. What we got then were the aircraft that people wanted to complete themselves, rather than anything based on theatre, volume produced etc. If someone was motivated to produce a Go229 (a guy called Gibbage I think) rather than a cockpit for the B17 then that is what we got.

Having said this a lot of the extra aircraft content were in free add ons anyway, so churlish to knock what I didn't have to pay anything for!

If you then add in the complication of the "copyright" issues that arose out of PF (American plane manufacturers apparently trying to claim rights over 1940's designs being reproduced in a computer game  ), and the sheer number of flyables we have finished up with in the sim, then I find it hard to critisize too much.

For active mates regardless of the content for this specific addon, which indeed has a strange planeset, this will be necessary in order to continue enjoying IL-2 online. Moreover, I suspect most will be getting the complete DVD in any event. When you consider all the content offered, plus some teasers for BOB, well I believe that's well worth the bother of the purchase.

Even with 46 there are skins, a map and ground objects, plus for me at least a couple of planes I would like to try (and being a Yak man would like to try out that Yak jet). And as mentioned some/most of these planes had already been worked on by the IL-2 community.

On top of all this, we will need the complete DVD (or purchase each addon separately) in order to enjoy the anticipated last patch that will have some additional maps.

Considering this will in all likelihood be it for almost a year until SOW is on the shelves I say the more the merrier!

Well it certainly looks for all the world like they've got the whole 'capitalism' thing sorted out. What.

Flyers

If you haven't already see it - an overview of the 46 disk content was added to the PF website homepage yesterday. 'Crazy Ivan' also gives a disk-set breakdown in the PF 'General Discussion' forum.

I must say that it's almost enough to stop me going into hibernation I can tell you!

Capitalism?...very true and Oleg - you used to be about the music!! :-({|=

Taken from the second part of the Oleg interview over at SimHQ. Thought it was relevant to this general discussion.

Q: A fun question... Can we get beer kegs as a payload option for the Hurricane in order to simulate the actions on Gibraltar?

A: We can… but in the new sim. I really plan to do it sometime in future. Just for fun... and on Spitfires instead of Hurricanes.

Remember we had some jokes in IL-2 series? For example, nice damage model of the toilet and ninja on some Japanese ships? In new series we will have more such jokes undocumented and deep inside the features.

However, in the 1946 add-on you will get a "beer-related" ground object.

Ok I see that Oleg had some constrains about the planeset. I'm tempted to get the whole compilation on DVD. The only thing that interests me in the '46 add-on is the Arado Ar-234 which I am currently making. Wonder if they will be volumetric smoke belching out of those RATO pods when it takes off.

Quote from Oleg

"Heinkel Lerche III

We used the Heinkel Lerche II as the basis. However, after modeling the plane we’ve discovered serious deficiencies in design, and were forced to make many changes to make this plane suitable for combat. Modeled precisely to original specifications, this plane would never take off."

   Reminds me of the Me-262 in the game. I never took off alive, instead I was roast beef on the runway.
