This is a community mod for Rome: Total War. An attempt by a group of folks with both some computer savvy and a love of history (or at least a love to argue over history). ;)

It is NOT a new game or expansion. It's been free and has undergone a number of revisions since being released many months ago.

I did give it a try. A lot of effort has gone into this mod. For me it took away too much fun, but others certainly might argue the opposite.

Interested in RTS? And I know you are Falcon. If you haven't already, pick up R:TW and Barbarian Invasion for that new monster machine, if you like the Total War series stuff mate.

Others? Well maybe Imperial Glory or Microsoft's Age of Empires III. More stuff is coming, and I'm probably forgetting some other good titles.

Macca could give you his opinion of IG. I heard the diplomacy was good but it had problems. AOEIII looks wonderful but pretty much the same gameplay as AOEII and a like.

Fal 'Morituri Te Saluttant'con

I am currently playing RTR version 6.1 - there is a 6.2 available but I haven't used that yet.

I like it, but I also like vanilla RTW as well and I switch between the two as the mood takes me.

I agree with TactS (now theres a surprise :) ) about the realism v fun element. RTR seems intuitively more real - hence the name I guess. For example when new family members appear they don't just appear in your capital but in the city their father is in typically - therefore you don't get the issue of having to ship out family members to the far flung corners of your empire in order to have governors in each city. Also when you conquer another city it takes some time before you can raise troops in that city - this seems more real to me in that it will take time to "Romanise" a population before they will fight for you against possibly fellow countrymen.

There are also a lot of changes to the maps and empires - new areas to conquer and new factions to play. The units are also very different with lots of tweaks to them both graphically and in terms of how they play. I also seem to be far more reliant on mercenaries in this game but that might just be my lack of ability. :D

I would certainly recommend you try it - you should be able to have lots of armies on screen with your "New Metal Ferret" pc - (green with envy) - you can always go back to vanilla if you don't like it.

Nice post mate. Sorry you found yourself agreeing with me. :D

Can't imagine what this game would look like on a 24" monitor. Heck, Falcon, if you pick up COD2 the bullets from the guns will probably look like missiles.

Hi lads.

TactS, I didn't buy Imperial Glory either. Played the demo and I mustsay....better stay with Rome TW.

From what I've heard diplomacy in IG is cool but battles as such lack that "something". Well, If the price goes down I might pick up a copy and look how fun is it. I would really like to see a Total War series assault 19th century , or better thge period from the end of Medieval times - 1444 or 1492 to Napoleon era or 1870. It would be a blast for me, I love the 19th Century period, it is so interesting!

If someone is interested in the period i highly reccomend a game called Victoria - an Empire under The Sun by Paradox entertainment. It is incredibly complex and really hard at the beginning but it pays off. And don't listen to reviewser that give it only 6 out of 10 - after the last patch it is absolutely great, for some ppl it is the best of the europa universalis series. though much more complicated. And it is an RTS:)

Gee...I want Barbarian nvasion....hope to get it not that far n the future.

S!
