Tonight I enjoyed engaging a dirty little slave rush by the AI (Eastern Romans) with my Huns.

The patch is out now for the original game. Is that what you mean mate?

I actually decided to re-start my Hun campaign over. Had a nice little empire of 10 territories and a few stellar armies but no money. :( In hindsight I shouldn't have enlisted so many elite (expensive) troops. Also, I spent too much time attacking the Eastern Romans when I should have kept invading to the west. :?

But hey there's more challenge now which is a good thing - I think. :D

Well, I don't know how it looks after installing the expansion. Can you play the old campaigns - Julii, for example?I know the expansion adds a new period and some factors such as religion etc. Does it have effect on the period from the original RTW?

Tonight I enjoyed engaging a dirty little slave rush by the AI (Eastern Romans) with my Huns.
Then I heard a noise :? I looked and it was a smoke bleching beast crossing the water! Image

I thought what manner of madness have the DAWGS visited upon my hoard?

then I heard a most astounding noise.. It was a BIG bird with LOUD roaring voice!!

And then it swooped and made hash out of my minions with a loud thundering noise.

"He who warned, uh, the British that they weren't gonna be takin' away our arms, uh, by ringing those bells, and um, makin' sure as he's riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be sure and we were going to be free, and we were going to be armed."

You guys get out of my thread! [-X The Germans are known as the Franks (right Frank  ) at this time, and I'm pretty sure they don't have flying machines, at least not yet. :D

Macca with the purchase of the expansion you get the patch for the original game automatically. Or, if you decide not to purchase the expansion you can download the patch for free.

FYI BI, which is now produced by SEGA not Activision, is installed in a sub-directory under the original game location. The patch is a collection of gameplay balances and game fixes. I sure you could head over to their site to read what has changed. And of course this will allow you to play the original game with these changes.

BI is set further along in history. The Romans are now divided into Western and Eastern empires, and for the purposes of this game there is no Senate (whence no Senate missions =D] ). The map is divided is less territories with a lot more established so-called Barbarians, including more active Rebels. These other factions have improved tech trees and abilities.

There are a number of things besides better AI play that I like. Yes, all the new factions and new abilities (like certain troops swimming or forming shield walls) are cool, I also like how each faction has different win conditions, but my favourite feature is better night battles for the campaign mode. Diplomacy has also improved.

Spent last night advancing in my second Hun attempt. Things are looking much better than in my first campaign. \:D/ I also have already enjoyed several night attacks which are awesome!

Enuff said. ;) Don't know if this is a game for a busy student, but as you know lots of history and eye-candy to enjoy. Let me know if you pick it up.

What's your thoughts about Age of Empires III too Macca?

Thx for the info,Tact:)

I think I'll pick it up but don't know when:)

I Installed the patch for the original RTW, I'm not sure when I will check it but what is mentioned in the readme file seems to be really good.

There are too many great games going to be released soon....BF@ Special forces, CoD2, The Elder Scrolls 4.....Gah...Civilization 4.....no no no ......not enough time nor money.

BTW, I read a great book on history of Rome recently, reads like a good story, it makes me want RTW BI even more:)

Tact, can you play the original RTW after installing the expansion?

Yes, both versions of the games remain playable.

Civilization 4 looks very interesting. Never played any in that series. Like you said just so many games. That's why I didn't pick up Imperial Glory, and traded away Silent Hunter.

AOEIII might be too tempting, especially as the AOE series was my first gaming experience with my current PC (previously I only had a 486 machine and no Internet).

Rome: Total War/Barbarian Invasion expansion, IL-2, Battlefield 2 and NHL2K6 (XBox) are my current interests.

AOEIII, CoD2 and maybe the expansion to BF2 (if they resolve some outstanding bug issues) look tempting.

I think we need to get rid of these annoyances called work, school and family. Just cutting into our gaming time, eh Macca?
