Anybody here besides me (and most likely Willie,) own a sixgun?
well, i've owned several over the years, Colts mostly, some other brands. and sold or traded off every one of them. but a while back, i got the yen to get back into the fold on them...and started looking around. JESUS! the price has skyrocketed! many's the time i could hook up with a fine Colt Model P sixgun for three to five hundred dollars... less than that, the more beatup looking they were. but hey, not any more. last gunshow i went to, even wornout Colts were going for 700 to 800 dollars. new ones a grand or better. man, i don't want a Colt for that price...no way.
but looking around, i spotted some replica Colts... several different brands in fact. Beretta Stampede, Uberti, Navy Arms, EMF, Taylor, and others... and most all of the replicas looked as good as any Colt. i finally shut my eyes and settled on a Uberti Cattleman in .45 Long Colt for 250.00 dollars... the piece looks good, near if not completely identical to the Colt Peacemaker. i took it home and damn, but it works just fine. i can even hit with it, by darn. and that .45 Long Colt round packs a hefty punch.
by the way, i found out why the Colt cowboy pistols and such have skyrocketed in price the last few years... a thing called Cowboy Action Shooting. yeah, from what i've checked on, its a hell of a fast growing sport these days, and old pistols, especially Colts, are being snapped up like crazy, driving the price sky high.
it does look pretty cool. the cowboy shooting clubs, mostly SASS (single action shooting society) backed and ram-rodded clubs and events, are sprouting up all over. you dress like a cowboy or westerner, you pack cowboy or western leather and iron, and you meet once a month or so to show off your duds, meet and greet other like-minded pistol packers, and even get to shoot off your sixguns in staged shooting contests. oh and at many of these events, you even get to chow down. some even have open bars AFTER the shooting's over. sounds cushy.
amazing... that something like that has spread like wildfire. i've checked around locally and there are none real close to me. but hey, someone might start one soon.
till then, i'm out there with my own Peacemaker busting caps and having a ball.
by the way, though a fairly low cost alternative to the Colt, i can highly recommend the Uberti sixguns. my Cattleman is doing very well for me.

Ya done good. That Uberti is HELL of a pistola. I've got an older one. 4 5/8" BBL, round ejector button and one piece grips. Feels as natural to me as ALL the old six guns I've owned in the past. ( (and sold because they got TOO DAMN PRICEY to keep
)
Interesting footnote for ya, ALL of the Colt Blackpowder Series guns were made by Uberti and assembled here so they could carry the MADE IN USA mark.
Used to play a bit at the Cowbay action shooting stuff until it got full of "I'm better than you" types with big $$ to burn. WE call them RUB's in the bike world ( Rich Urban Bikers)
Guess you could that bunch RUG's ( rich urban gunners)
You'll enjoy that Uberti.
Only thing I noticed on mine was that the blue was a bit weak on teh back starp and wore through pretty quick. Case colors on the action are jsut as bright as day one though.
What size waist ya got? I got a HELL of a 2 gun rig I'd part with. Hand made and hand stitched by Milo Mims in San Antonio. Saddle leather and 30 cartridge loops if I recall correctly. 45 Cal loops. ( Holds a 5 in 1 w/ no probs too) The belt is 40" long and the holsters are the single loop design and CORRECT for pre-1890 gear. NO "Hollywood" stuff for me.
RH and LH holsters, turn em around use 'em for cross draw to mess w/ the RUG's heads.. BWAHAHAHAHA!! Got a set of leather "cowboy" cuffs made by Milo as well. They look cool but ain't real comfortable.

Stick em up
I own a C02 pellet pistol that looks like a browning 45 cal like the US Army used to use (I hated those things, I could do better by throwing it instead of shooting it). Now regarding the M16 rifle, I was expert rated with that one (due to a lot of hunting in the wilds of Lousiana as a boy. (Winn Parish around the town of Sikes...Mr Falcon home boy).
As for me, I like 9mm's,

thanks, Willie, but the belt wouldn't fit me. (sigh)...
yeah, i've also got a Milo rig, single holster, a double loop Cheyenne, also 30 cartridge loops. great outfit, very slick. man, good leather ain't cheap either! whew! my Uberti is one of the new Cattlemen series, 43/4 inch barrel, walnut one-piece grips. brass backstrap. i prefer the shorter barrel and for some odd reason, can seem to hit with them better (though that sounds nutty, i know.) back in the day, i've had Colts and Rugers with longer barrels, ---up to the 71/2 inch ones, and couldn't hit near as good. don't know why.
only thing i've had to do to the new pistol, is take the grips off and do a teeny bit of fine sand paper and steel wool to them, right where they fit around the lower part of the frame. though they visually fit perfect, there were "near" microscopic edges there that sort of cut into my hand everytime i fired. nothing serious and probably would have worn down all by themselves after a while of shooting... but it was distracting to me so i sort of helped them along and filed them down. now they fit PERFECTLY smooth and feel great to my honkin' big-arsed hands.
the day i bought the Uberti, i was really searching for a .44-40 caliber pistol. i've owned several in the past and really like that caliber, but alas could not find a single one and had to settle for the .45 Long Colt. but as it turns out, i'm quite happy with that. the big ole Long Colt packs a good punch with those honkin' flat-nosed slugs.
