I'm doing that so I can fly the plane in most parks, including my soaring club field.
I've discovered that the electric motors are very powerful nowadays and a whole lot less noisy and troublesome than gas engines. I used to fly what is known as a pattern plane, which is highly aerobatic which I like.
Here is a web site with info about the kit I am ordering. The plane I am going to build is the SuperXtra 1.14m.

It is built entirely out of foam ( I used to build balsa models only). I am amazed at how strong they are and how realistic they fly now and the thrust to drag/weight ratio is very positive, so you can hang on the prop or accelerate straight up.
Should be a hoot, will tell all about it once I get it and get it in flying condition.
Anyone else in the FI into RC? Especially foamy's as they are called? Please share your pearls of wisdom. I am trying to pick out a reasonably priced transmitter, reciever and servos now. Any thoughts on that.
