PERFECT SETTINGS for FB?

Post by :FI:WillieOFS » Fri Jun 18, 2004 4:17 pm

OK, those of you lucky ones that can run PERFECT settings..
I've tweaked this punk till it won't do any more and EXCELLENT is the best I can do and still get decent frame rates.. 50-60's unless I'm looking straight up.

WHAT vid cards are you running?

My ATI 9000Pro will not do it.

My machine is a P4 @2.53G, 533FSB
1G of PC-800 ECC Rambus

I think it is a big enough horse to pull the load if I get a faster card.
:?

THe NEW Nvidia 6800 is OUT of my reach financially..

The ATI (9800 series) cards seem much more reasonably priced.

Remember Willie

the ATI 9800Pro comes in BOTH 128 and 256M configurations!

If you see a Sapphire 9800Pro for $180-210

don't immediatly go all creamy

it's the 128.

Which is okay by me,

(my cpu is the limiting factor in my system)

but if you want the best ATI offers,

get the 256.

ak!

that's right!

I keep forgetting the new XT

...

I s'pose the eleventy-billion dollar price tag keeps blanking my memory.

gah!

...

wow,

just checked the shops,

the 9800XT is no longer $700

you can get it for less than $435 now.

hmmmm ...

naw!

I have decided to stop chasing perfect and settle for higher res and higher aa/af. The planes really do look excellent.

You'd think a 3G cpu, 1gig of dual channel DDR400, and a 9800pro would do it no probs, but I need to seriously decrease aa/af and lower res and it's still gets slow (<20fps) if there's lots of water plus action. Annoying.

What settings do u use with ur XT Grecian? Maybe I'm doing it wrong!

With Perfect I aim for 30-40 with regards to framerate. It is smooth enough for good gameplay. Only a very high-end machine could give you 60+ on Perfect.

I drop to Excellent for an even more smoother performance when playing online, especially given lag.

When hosting I drop it to High to ensure enough system resources.

Your slightly older card my not have adequate speed, though should give you something reasonable offline. If nothing else, should you ever wish to take pics of a mission, play your recorded track back after switching to Perfect mode to capture high-end shots.

Tried that. :? Had LOVELY water and the trees looked like TOOTHPICKS!! :(
  I get good frame rates offline and online with what I have as long as I leave everything EXCELLENT and high. The "edges' get a bit stairstepped in some screen shots on occasion, but I can usually work around that.

The last few times in Crimson's server it has been awesome compared to what I used to encounter. Looking forward to flying in your server again as well.

I might even fire up my 2.02 version and give Rasta's server a look see as well.

So what's prefect like... never seen it on my own system.

Time perhaps to get a new graphics card... actually maybe I'll wait until 2006 ... I'm sure prices will have dropped by then.

Just flew a mission offline in the crimea in perfect. The water does look great! I just stare through the plexiglas an don't notice the 109 on my ass!

Good suggestion Tactical- perfect offline, lower settings online.

Hardware really struggles to keep up with software, no?

I've downloaded radlinker- any suggestions for conservative overclock settings for this?

cheers!

Dodgy...

I don't have them anymore... :( Not that I'll miss them ;)

And I reckon they'd be even 'dodgier' on a good system :D

What ever happened to the movie makers in the squadron?

We know Gen is busy recording the gurgles of his new princess, but what about the rest of you guys?

No more FI recruitment vidoes?

Just had a look at thar Rivatuner link. Was impressed to note that of the 1797727 a staggering 2 whole people voted to give it an average mark of 5/5!

Now those are convincing stats!
