Hyperventilation and playing games: help me out here please

Post by Kitty » Mon May 02, 2005 11:16 am

I just came back from the docter and the vertigo effect I sometimes experience when playing games is because I am hyperventilating, aka, I breathe too much. Too much is not good and I am thus lacking carbon dioxide. When I go play games under these circumstances I get nauseaus, dizzyspells and the feeling of falling over, not to mention chest pains, heart pounding etc - all symptoms of hyperventilation. Even panic attacks are a symptom. Ok?

So what exactly is there in a game that affects my breathing. I don't have a clue, at all. At first I thought it was because of the eye vs screen movement. I remember playing my first FPS and I got sick from playing (same things I mentioned above). I thought it was merely motion sickness, but appearantly that's only partly the case, in my case o.O

Seems whatever takes place in the game, wether it excites, angers or frustraties me, obviously influences how I breath. I can only assume the less I let it affect me, the less obvious these influences will become - but who plays a game that way?

Isn't this a Catch 22 situation? Or am I just being a nut. Again?

Dare I install and play Il2 again? Risk it? Yes no? Help?

Vertigo?

I get motion sickness when playing certain levels in CoD.

Thankfully no vertigo - otherwise I'd not be able to fly

THe trick is to wear a gas mask or one of those wee masks people use when out in the traffic - it'll cut down your O2 levels :)

I'd also recommend playing in a sealed room with no plants, in the dark and wearing rubber gloves.

Hmm... must talk to someone about these fetishes...

Yes yes very funny.

But I still am hyperventilating, and flying a plane while blowing air into a paper bag isn't going to win any wars now is it?

c'mon you guru's, help a stray kitty out here! Meow!

Got Milk?

Oh wait, I am on a diet, no diary. Gah!

Hi Kitty,

What about booze?

Couple of large Lagavuilin's or Bunnahabhain's always sees me calm down .................and shot down.

(As opposed to Stella which makes me jump like a frog on a hot frying pan.)

 Or try a spot of meditation before you go burning, bombing, machinegunning.

Booze makes me snooze ;)

I drink occasionaly, but in my experience alchohol usualy is a downer, which in my case isn't a good thing to get afterwards :)

The mix of meditation and metal is probably more feasible for me :) I really really like how Ooooohmmmmmratatata sounds :)

So whenever you hear

Ooohhhmmm

the ratatata is near
