Sunday 13th Feb

Post by :FI:Nellip » Tue Feb 08, 2011 8:52 am

Busy preparing some stuff for Sunday - and thought we could have a trip to Malta.

Time frame is spring 1942 when the first Spitfires were flown onto the island off carriers. I might do a few coops using the map that covers Malta and Sicily - with us flying red in Spits and Beaufighters against AI 109's, Mc202's etc.

I'll also do a DF to warm up as well, on a smaller map. Seemed to work last week as we had no restarts in the coop!!!

One word of warning, the airstrip that the Spits operated from on Malta - Takali - seems very bumpy when landing on it. I have made two attempts and broke the undercarriage both times. I might see if other strips are better, not as historically accurate but easier for us!

Interesting about the airfield. Can you fly that map in QMB or QMB+ ?. I would like to give it a go.

Certainly not in QMB, not sure about QMB+ as I don't use that.

I set up a very basic mission in FMB to test landings which I can email to any interested parties?

I have tried a few more times and my success rate has improved - low speed landing (just above stall, say 140-150kph), lots of back pressure to keep the tail down and very gentle braking are the key.

Darn it

I was one flat tire and a zip code away from getting online with you all today. Ever try and get a tire fixed because the doughnut that they call a spare does not work well in the winter. Anyways I am hoping to get back into flying this coming weekend.
