If you have a multi-core CPU (who does'nt these days?):
http://www.mlin.net/SMPSeesaw.shtml
Select the version for multi core CPUs at the bottom of the page. (SMP Pro)
Install and send a shortcut to your desktop.
Start Il2 and use your windows key to minimize it.
Open SMPSeesawPro and right click on Il2 from the list. Select "isolate on CPU(s)" and pick a core for Il2 to use. This will not only keep Il2 from trying to use more than one core (which it's not really designed to do), it will block other programs from using that core.
Exit SMP, it will continue to keep Il2 on your chosen core until you exit Il2.
I am getting much higher and more stable FPS in Il2 on most maps I have tested, with the exception of the Berlin map. Cannon's Channel map is running nicely with this.

Well, Murph, you can Set and choose the CPU core in the conf.ini
Is there any other advantage of the program you mentioned?

Yes. As I said, this will not only set the core, it will reserve it's use solely for Il2 as long as the game is running. Setting the core affinity in config.ini will not do this.

Hmm, you mean it will prevent other software using that core?
In the conf.ini you can only force Il-2 to use a specific core, with the following numbers:

I had mine set to use one core in the config.ini, but since I'm using this new program I put the ";" back in front of the Process Affinity Mask line so that the config setting would'nt interfere with SMP.

Hmmm ...
Nice find, Tim!
This may be especially helpful if and when SoW actually is released.
(Edit)
Just ried to DL it. All I got was a screen full of hieroglyphics.

The working link is further down the page, Dan. You want the Pro version.
I expect that when SOW comes out it will support muti-core processing.

They make 'em with more than one core?? .... must have missed that, when did that start happening?
Next you'll be telling me that they don't make floppy discs no more

"To use SMP Seesaw, your computer must have exactly two processors or cores, and you must be running Windows NT, 2000, 2003, or XP."
Assuming this to be correct at their site, Quad Core or Windows 7 users need not apply? I have read over at SimHQ that no appreciable difference has been found, at least by those posting, using a Quad under Windows 7 by messing around the core allocation.
Murph, you have a dual core running XP I guess?

Oh gawd, nobody mention to Gurb about HyperThreading, 12.5" long, two pound GPU's and 512G SSD's. He just ... won't ... understand.

Hey TSMark! Gonna be in HE tonight?

Not yet mate.
Maybe the guys have mentioned, I have purchased a new PC and recently received a TIR5 (previously enjoyed a TIR3). Still need to grab a new headset. After that I need to make sure that all this works properly under Windows 7 and with my PSU (just a 350w). Presently playing Empire: Total War as Gurb's faction (evil British

) before I install IL-2. After that I really need some time to remember how to fly, or learn how to fly depending on one's viewpoint.
Miss the H.E. gang, and looking forward to flying again. Did some trolling in the Rise of Flight thread, but have decided not to pursue that game, at least for now anyway. While I am not crazy about the headaches the mods can bring, I will probably rejoin the sessions after I enjoy a short offline campaign.
What have you been up to Stu? My son played Dragon Age on the Xbox. He's playing Battlefield Bad Company 2 at the moment. I will probably will play the campaign myself soon. Loved Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2 for the PC. I would get Arma II but it seems still broken. My family PC probably wouldn't play it that well in any event.

Mark, that sounds awfully ... methodical. What are you, a civil serv ... erm, uhh ... whoa! some weather out there huh man?!
Sneeriously, sounds good. If something needs fixin' on your computer it's best to get 'er done before messin' with the mods.
Headset, headset ... oh yeah, the flavor of the month is the
Steelseries Siberia v2. Check it out.
Me? Besides IL-2 and RoF, Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2. Man, you gotta catch the end game in ME2. It's better than almost ANY action/SF movie I've ever seen and hey, YOU'RE IN IT! (you, the player, I mean) Dragon Age is good. I'm just about ready to complete it a second time. On March 16th there's a DA expansion coming out;
Dragon Age: Awakening ... I think. I'll get that.
BUT! RoF is uber good and growing on me the better ... well, I'm not getting any worse anyway ... I get. Don't dismiss it too quickly Mark. You'll need a good 'puter for SoW any way, right?
Well, if I had another ten hours a week to mess around, I'd get some of the Total War stuff, but such is life.
So you ain't ready to climb into your cockpit yet. That's okay, but that doesn't stop you from chattin' wiff us on Friday nights ... right?
see ya,
Stu
