First impressions are very favourable here Vin.

Its going to p**s down here tomorrow so the slave driver wife wont be able to send me out into the garden. I'm hoping to get everything finished then.

Its all been positive so far. Win 7 is a vast improvement over Vista, no question about it. I read a load of dramas about changing from a 32 bit OS and installing/ running programs but tbh it was dead easy. You just need to be methodical and remember to back up stuff that you want to carry over.

The biggest single improvement has been in Rise of Flight. I've got that pretty much all out (no post effects) at 1680x1050 and its smooth as. If they do fix the uber-snipper AI it will be playable again. I've also found the answer to never having stutters in maxed out IL2- just throw a Quad core PC running a 64 bit OS with 8 Gb of ram and two kilos of GPU's at it. If Oleg had told us that seven years ago think of all the time we could have saved !

Great stuff Richard. I SHOULD be getting my Win7 in the mail tomorrow. If I don't, close your windows and play loud music around your kids. You won't want them to hear me grouse.

Back up stuff? Like what? Everything? Saved games? Fonts? Mods? Restore points?

Back up all that c**p that you never use but can't live without.

Seriously, the only thing that I needed to kick the cat over was forgetting to backup my skins folder.

Did you see the post on their boards - apparently the Fokker Dr1 and Sopwith Camel are out next month. If they fix the AI, I might but those two on my Christmas list

Did you see the other post that suggests that they may be free ? Personally I expect to see pigs fly first but you never know.

The HSFX pack is taking up all my attention atm so I don't think I'll be buying anything new RoF wise for a while.

Okay, so everyone says to save EVERYTHING cuz an install of Windows 7 64 bit over Vista 32 bit essentially cleans out the hard drive, BUT, reading the back side of the 7 box that the mail person FINALLY decided to deliver says, "This version of Windows 7 is designed as an update for Windows Vista. If you are upgrading from Windows XP, you will need to backup your files and settings, perform a clean install and then re-install your existing files, settings,[sic] and programs. Visit windows.microsoft.com/upgrade for important information. Praise be unto Bill Gates."

So yeah, I'll go and check this site out, but if it says, 'go ahead and leave your files where they are, they're safe, there's nothing to worry about here, we're here to help, what could go wrong?', I might just move uber important files off to the side and go for it on the rest of the files.

What say you?

Yes I saw it - but given these are the two most iconic planes of the war, and most people will stump up to buy them, would you give them away for free?

No and no Neil, I wouldn't. That said I'm hardly from a professional background known for its charitable leanings (said as he finishes lolly stolen from baby)

Stuart-Its a clean install from any 32 to 64 bit OS as I understood it. Sorry. Get saving that invaluable c**p.

Got them both and what with the latest patch things are looking rosier than a rose at rose time. Flying a Neiuport 17 campaign just now, think I might get myself killed and start one with the Camel :D

D'L'ing now.

Don't worry about the Castor Oil Vin, You remember what Dick Halloran told Mrs Torrence at the Overlook Hotel in the Kitchen after showing her the dried fruits pantry- "you've got to be regular if you're going to be happy ..."
