Thanks for the link Willie.
The lady could have been a better eye witness, but at least she was better than some.
If you find any more info, let us know.

Been all over the web since I posted that. Found a couple of guys that stated the same thing I thought was ALWAYS the rule when landing in formation.
The rear plane ALWAYS lands first. From what I saw on that vid, the P51D "PAUL II" plunked her down and "PRECIOUS METAL" plowed right up his six.
"PRECIOUS METAL" is a Reno Racer and with all the speed mods, probably has to land at a faster speed than a "somewhat stock" P-51. Either way, they should have brought 'em down one at a time in my opinion. To heck with wowing the crowds with landings like that.
Now they've got one dead, one totalled racer, one very torn up P-51 and LOT of naysayers with ammo to say "I TOLD YOU SO!"
A few more of that type of screw up and we won't see any old warbirds flying. Either the insurance will make it too costly like it has in the UK or the weenies at the FAA will pull all the certs and ground 'em forever.

Probably sitting in their tower waiting for the planes to land that they've just given permission to land.
From what I could gather, the two 51's were finishing up a "flyby" airshow of some sort and planned to land together. (although not quite that together)
I'm pretty sure the rear plane never saw the other pane until he heard or felt stuff tearing up. He may have hammered the throttle and torque/snap rolled it.
Either way, it was poor planning and execution on the pilot's parts and a terrible waste.

Scheisse!

NOW, WAIT JUST A MINUTE, Y'AWL!
It isn't always the fault of ATC when things go wrong. Pilots are known for not always following instructions. I can tell you more than a couple ones in my experience. Like that idiot who taxiied onto a closed portion of the runway when he was instructed to make a 180 degree turn at the designated point, despite all the markers and NOTAMS that went out. But in this case it is hard to tell until a proper Accident Investigation and Report is completed. In my experience I'll never allow two aircraft to land at the same time, no matter how small the craft is or how long or wide a runway is. In this case I'll say that was a bad call.
