IL-2 with 6 DOF?

Post by :FI:Blue2 » Mon May 07, 2007 3:43 am

Does anybody know what the story is on this?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFJB8LEW ... ed&search=

Found this & several others like it. Had no idea there was a chance of using the 6 DOF thing with IL-2, but apparently somebody's figured out a way. Sure would be nice, huh? If you know anything, please share.

Saw some of that a while back , was rumoured to be a hack and I've not seen any patches or DL's to enable it.

Could try asking at you tube I guess.

Whether it works or not IL-2's graphics can't handle it.

If the in cockpit head pivit point moves to the side using 6dof you will see gaps in the panel and other surfaces. Sides of objects that are hidden if your POV is fixed, as in the existing 3dof, are not rendered.

So, if a hack exists, it would be uuuuuugly.

Oleg rejected 6DOF for IL-2 not because it wouldn't work but because the cockpits weren't made for it and most had parts missing, some looking really bad. Oleg's decision was that people would complain and accuse 1C of being amateurs if he enabled it. This guy hacked the code to allow it but he never released it and he is known to be a benign hacker in other games. Appears he helped 1C to tighten the code and the hack doesn't work now anyway after 4.07.

We will have to wait for BOB for 6DOF from 1C I'm afraid.

Yes it looks pretty cool. I saw a demo of one. Sure beats the hat switch on my joystick. They don't sell it locally so I'll have to buy one online.

this is a bit off topic but ArmA just released. i've been playing it a bit lately. for those of you who loved Flash Point, you'll definitely like this game, and it supports 6DOF which is pretty nice for a shooter game. :)
