OK so I'm not too quick on the draw mates. ;) I have never played this game nor its predecessor. Given its very high ratings I was thinking about trying it out until Medieval 2 is fixed before I purchase that game.

Anyone else play this title a couple years back?

...some years back.

Thought it was well done, and enjoyed it!

Never did buy the full game.

I have the game. The singleplayer campaign is incredible, just wait til you get the (anti)gravity-gun. you can pick up and use just about everythig as a weapon, from coffee-mugs to radiators.

I dont think you will regret it if you bought this game, even if the multiplayer stinks out-of-the-box.

Hi TactS

I have HL2 and also the somewhat confusingly titled addon HL2 Episode 1 ........

I enjoyed the single player games of both immensely - the characters are well defined, graphics are food and no bugs. Some people have complained about "Steam" which is the copy protection system that loads onto your machine but I have not had any issues with it.

I don't think it has much "replay" value - I went through both games over about a week and haven't played them since but they were certainly enjoyable on first play.

Cheers

I have both HL2 and the add-on. The best FPS I've ever played. Graphics and gameplay is out of this world. Some scary moments with the Head Crabs. Gordon Freeman rocks! :D

Thanks guys for the comments. Given its current price maybe the replay value is more acceptable. Actually having something that doesn't take too long to enjoy sounds great (just don't tell the gaming industry 'cause they seem to release a lot of short titles nowadays). Apparently this game (HL2 plus Episodes 1& 2) is coming to the 360, but as I said wanting something to hold me over until Medieval.

Given how great of a game this is why do folks not want to replay it mate? Sounds like Oblivion. I really enjoyed that for 3 or so solid months, but have yet to want to go back as another character.

Keeping in mind my 12-year old son, I'm very selective of the games that are installed on our machine/Xbox. From the ESRB ratings while it is Mature due to gore and violence, there are no language or sexuality issues, right? Ironically not as worried about the violence.

By the way Altarboy I am still waiting for your review of Medieval 2 mate. Perhaps you didn't pick it up yet?

Well, halflife2 is a great game. Good storyline, amazing graphics, cool sounds and so on.
BUT there are scenes in the game i think are not suitable for kids in general. Cutting
opponents in half with a circular saw blade may be ok for a mature mind, but this game was
off limits for my 14 year old son.
I'd rather have my (now 15 ye4ar old) watch gina wilde instead of playing doom 3 (have to inspect his
"babes"-folder from time to tome, though ;) ).

I know what you mean Cider - game was off limits to my two boys (7 & 9) for that reason - although they were only "zombies" I was cutting in half!

Sorry Tacts but the expected arrival of MTW2 didn't deliver. All thanks to the Christmas mail rush. Hoping to get it before Christmas Day. At least the Alien DVD movie came through.

Rgr. You are probably not missing much given the reported issues at the moment. A list of bug fixes for the first patch is suppose to be released today. While some (many?) are apparently enjoying the game already, given some of the issues like a passive AI I can't imagine anyone but fanboys having fun in their campaigns.

Sorry I am so late on this post, but I do have both HL2 and EP1 and they are both amazing. One of the best single player experiences to date.

Yeah maybe it's for the best TacticalS. Everyone's out for a quick buck and games are no exception. I remember one reviewer was appalled at the many bugs the original IL2 Sturmovik had and the record number of patches. HL2 was almost perfect when it came out. In fact I think I'm gonna load it up again with Episode 1 and see if I can use my gravity gun and throw a toilet bowl at dem head crabs. While I'm at it I'll load up F.E.A.R. and the expansion and play that too. I'm definitely out of control!

Guys it looks like I might be picking up Medieval 2 next week to start enjoying over the holidays. Sorry lads no Historic Encounters for at least January 2008.

I still have also been considering Half-Life 2. However, I am worried about all this Steam business. Not too worried with the initial installation and verification stuff, and understand after that I can play in "offline mode" and all. But is it difficult when not playing HL2 to terminate the Steam process/application, and when I am done with the game (but don't wish to uninstall) can I terminate the Steam process/application for good until I want to re-activate and play some more? In other words, what mess will I get into with Steam?
