I heard the developers added spyware that tracks your every move.

I heard some strange stories too but not sure whether they're fact or fiction. Something about ingame advertising for third parties.

Guess I'll have to dig a little deeper and find out for certain, and how manynew gamemodes does BF2142 have?

ehm think I'll pass this one, though the mech kinda looked cool.

Is it worth a purchase? I've got the other BF's but was unsure about this one.

I had the game preordered ,after playing the demo i cancelled preorder.

You would do best if you download and try the demo firs.

The spyware tracks what websites you visit and so on so the EA can put certain advertisements and comercials into the game itself, so you may see a building with turning "Pepsi" sign on it o "Cheap lassies" on another, depending on the websites you visit, of course.

For me it iwent a bit too far regarding this spyware.

Thhere are folks that like the game very much and I beleive it is really good, not for me though. I really like BF2 very much and this 2142 is so futuristic...

My 2 cents.

If you are interested in playing with a bunch of peeps, you can check out the crew over at my site http://www.ultimategamingforums.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

We have a BF2 group that is about to expand into 2142 as well. If anything, ya might try out the servers or something.

As for me, I grew tired of the battlefield series about a year ago or so.

It seems that more games will become invested with ingame advertising, but it's a turn in gaming that I can well do without. No matter how cool the game looks.

EA did mention somewhere that if you don't want the ads that you should play this game on a computer that doesn't have an internet connection. yes EA that's of course brilliant advice.

Anyway, I thought they were done with ads in the past and I never expected to see it return.

Yes I agree with the ads. Hate 'em too, especially if you're an ATI Card user and keep seeing that the game works best with NVidia card poping up before starting the game.

"Ads" I can live with. If it were to bring down the cost of games, I'd be for it. Though I don't know how "realistic" it would be to advertize a 2006 Dodge Ram in the year 2142, or 1942 for that matter.

What I don't like is the possibility of forced data mining, which is what I've heard is in the software. Maybe I'm wrong, but someone explained somewhere that there is an insert that essentially says that when you start BF2142, there will be another program running in the background checking your online habits and other things to "personalize" the ads for you or something else similar using those online habits. If Dodge, or Nvidia, or Spam want to sponsor a game, or buy ad space in a game that's fine(ish) with me. But to go out and mine my cookies in an attempt to bring advertizement to the game, that's just spyware, plain and simple.
You've got red on you.

Yeah, what right do they have to 'snoop' into our systems anyway? That's just plain invasion of privacy. That's why I won't install it in my system. But I keep wondering if any other games 'secretly' installs spyware

Nope, not picking that up. After all those "Booster Packs" and crappy support. To heck with EA. Did play the demo however. Apparently in the future they stilll can't make a gun shoot straight.

Sounds way too futuristic for me... Unless there´s a sniper class in it ;)

Yup, Mech 3 was the best of the bunch in my opinion. Heavy Gear 2 at least had Coop, but the later levers were HARD.

And that's one other genre of games that justifies all the peripherial hardware that most of us have.

What happened to the Mech games? Haven't seen one since MW4:Mercs for the PC. :(
