That one was taken about a half mile from my house..

Skeggles CLOSE? What kind of a street name is that? I wonder what Elter Water and Haweswater taste like? I guess I shouldn't talk with street names like Stink Creek Road and Noodle Dome Road around here..

Anybody know what the name of the old airfield near Huntingdon is. Looks like a big parking lot now.. :( AND why isn't DUXFORD Airfield in DUXFORD?

Could be Wyton

Polebrook?

Most likeley you mean Alconbury former RAF/USAF base, now a "brownfield site" up for development. There used to be an aircraft scrap yard a few miles south, just of the M11.(though it's been a few years since I've been up that way.

see also Upwood, Wyton

I think I saw the word Alconberry near by on Google Earth when I was fooling around trying to find that bomber.

Great site you linked to, THANKS!

Wyton is the nearest airfield to Huntingdon.

It is still an RAF base and although it is a logistics base now, the airfield is still active. Though mainly used for light commercial stuff.

I think they lease out some of the space on the airfield to constuction companies as there are rack up rack of containers and huge coils of 35cm water piping etc.

Alconbury is a bit further West by the A1 road. There is a propasal for either housing or turning it into a rail freighht terminal as it is quite close to the main Great NorthWest railway line.... though some dick head politician begrudges wasting all the money on building huge B52 capable runways there and wants to transfer Cambridge airport there.
