Squadron skins: Let's get ornagidez!!

Post by :FI:Falcon » Thu Sep 21, 2006 10:04 pm

Okay,

Use this thread to tell others what ac you are doing.

Just assume that I'm only doing the metal ones at this time.

Skinners, pick your favorite ac or one that needs a home and post that you're doing it.

~~~
templates (tp)
metal templates (mt)
and IreGreen skins (IGn)
that I have available now.
(-) means:
- that the template is old or needs work or
- the metal textures in the template need work or
- the conversion to an IreGreen paint job needs work.
(+) means:
- that the template is up-to-date and better than average in precision and detail or
- the metal effect looks pretty nice and is ready to convert to FI skins or
- the IreGreen scheme is ready to roll out of the door (if we go with the IreGreen scheme)
I have available, (in varrious forms of readiness and able to send templates to you):
Here is a file of several overlay layers to better texturize your skins. It takes time to learn how to best use these, but once you do you can create your own.
Sadly, I can't use your texture file Falc, even though I would really like to. It's impossible as I don't use PSP....
I have a few templates, none of them mine, I've lost the credit to give some as I've modified them over the years... but here we go:
AM62 - tp
A20G - tp/(maybe MT)
B-25 - tp/mt
Beaufighter - tp
109 (E-K) - tp/IGn
110g - tp/IGn
Corsair - tp/IGn
Hellcat - tp/IGn
I-16 - tp/IGn
FW190A(8&9) - tp
FW190D - tp
Blenheim - tp (never used)
Gladiator J8A - tp/IGn
IL-2 - tp/IGn
I153p - tp
KI84 - tp
Ki61 - tp
CR-42 - tp
LA7 - tp
SBD-3/5 - tp/IGn
P-38 - tp/mt
P-39 - tp/(possible mt)
P-40B/C/hawk81 - tp/mt(old style and PF version)
P-47 - tp/mt
P-51 - tp/mt
Tempest - tp/(inadvertently stolen)IGn
He111 - tp
Me262 - tp/mt/IGn
SpitfireIX - tp
These are all I think I have and that I'm comfortable with.
If these help at all let me know which ones are needed...
Snaphoo.
P.S. Does anyone else think it might not be a bad idea to meet up on TS sometime and start formulating a plan?
[Edit] I should add that more than likely all of my templates are, or should be, at a (-) as I've never verified the historical/structural accuracy of any of the templates at all. I just try to make 'em look purdy. If any of them are accurate at all, it is not by my doing.
So far the three of us (Noter, Falcon, & Snaphoo) seems to be the most interested, sorry Sneaky, you are in there too, seen quite a few of your posts. The three US guys are all close in time zones we could easily set up a time to get together on TS and sort some of this out. I think that's a good idea Snap. My late evenings are better 10-11pm est. Does this time frame work for you guys, obviously Sneaky you are welcome too.
I'll need to go through my skins and see what I've got, most of it, except for the US aluminum doesn't translate well to the IreGreen, but I will double check and reply.
I can't open the Ire templates either Falcon, can you export to a psd file or a layered tif?
Well then,
I'll just turn it into a .psd file.
No!
...
That's just what they're expecting us to do! Image
I'll convert the file in about an hour.
Please list the aircraft you have done
Okay,
we're getting close to finishing the Allied ac.
~~~

How's this for a file name format?

FI_ac type and model_paint scheme name_Blank or pilot's name_number_version number

FI_A20G_IreGrn_BLANK_00_V1

FI_Tempest_FISmetal_Fenian_07_V1

~~~
Please list the ac of yours you want to use. Don't worry that someone else has listed a particular skin. We will sort that out later and probably use any duplicates in future updates.
~~~

A20G
EDIT: B-25
Beauftr
Wildcat
Corsair
i-153
I-185
IL-2
La-7
LaGG
Mossi
P-11c
P-47
P-51b
P-51c
P-51D
Pe-2
Seafire MkIII
Spitfire MkVb
Spitfire MkVc
Spitfire MkIX
Tempest
Yak 9

~~~
Still needed?
Brewster
LA-5 ?
P-40E/M ?
Yak 7's
Yak 3
~~~

If you're not finished with a dirt or wear layer or some other delay, go ahead and state that the skin is ready. Dirt/wear/etc can be added to next month's (whatever) updates.

Let's get this first phase done.

Who is our .zip meister here? Who will create a dl file?

Where will all these files go?

Thanks,

Falcon

Sure, do the La-5 if you'd like. The latest decision was to use one skin for the La-5 and 7, but it would be nice to have one of both.

Have you missed anything? I don't know. Check past posts or wait until all skinners have posted their lists and we will compile a last "to do" list.

I think this list is mostly correct. I'll verify when I get back to the homestead, this evening after working in the saltmine today...

Hellcat - Done (with some minor adjustments to the dirt layer left to do)
SBD 3 - Done
SBD 5 - Done
I16 - Done
Gladiator - Done
J8A ;) - Done
P39winter - Done
P39 EireGreen - Done
P-40B/C "Flying Sheep" version - Done
P-40B/C "standard" - (in the works)
MiG3 - Done(ish)(dirt/wear adjustments left)
Yak3 - Done(ish)(ditto)
Edit: Brewster - Done (WIP)
Edit: Spitfire IX - WIP (should be completed sometime next year)

I've got a real nice Storch started... I say started because when I figured out that it's not flyable by player, I stopped.

I think that's it... so far...

I'd like to take a stab at the brewster, but I can't find a good reliable template for that one. I haven't tried to make one because I was looking.

P.S. Don't forget your B-25 Falc... Didn't see it in your list. :D

And about the format for the files...

What if we did this, since there are going to be so many FI planes in a folder after we get them all distributed:

Assuming that the gang can get the file into the right folder, then there's only a small bit of realestate before the file is cut off due to space restrictions...

FI_00_A20G_IreGrn_BLANK_V1
FI_08_A20G_IreGrn_Falcon_V1
FI_34_A20G_IreGrn_Noter_V1

etc... So you have all the information needed, but you only have to look for your number, in case the rest (after IreGrn, for example) gets cut off by the game menu.

Just a thought...

I think I have the first template I ever dl'd, so it's not mine, but this Brewster has some interesting layers in it.

I'll send it to you if I find it.

...

Uh, if I don't find it, I'll prolly not send it.

F

EDIT: Brewster found ... sent.

so anyway, I says ta Garerth, I says ...

Gareth,

Could we use your FTP space to store these ac skins?

It would be linked to the site, I hope, I haven't spoken to Frank yet.

I understand that there are others offering their space so please, if you are uncomfortable about this, don't feel pressured!!!

Let me know your thunks,

Stu

an' he says back teh me,

Well you can do it here if you like.... getting a new server set up ready for next year so I can consolidate the various accounts. This will be a good way of testing it Smile

server address = censored

logon name = censored

password = censored

The file/folder will be viewable at censored

You can create folders on this directory, so for example you can have a folder for Bf109G2, a folder for Bf109F etc to help keep the skins organised. not sure what FTP software you are using there, but there will be a way of creating them!

You could create subfolders off of those too e.g. skin type then with all the numbers for that skin in that folder...depends on what you want to organise.

Ain't that nice. Would that be okay wiff youze guys?

I'll get security clearances for you guys later.

As a file nameing convention, I would suggest

Planetype_skintype_number e.g. A20G_IreGre_FI00 the grouping would be much more logical object order i.e. number is a property of the paint scheme which in turn is a property of the plane skin.

There would be a folder structure there..

http://www.nerb.ca/fi_skins/A20G" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.nerb.ca/fi_skins/Bf109G2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.nerb.ca/fi_skins/Bf109K4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

etc.

Ther is no intention to dress it up in some database driven wrapper. I have other things to do.
