CVEs were sometimes used to transport land based fighters to their island bases. They would launch using the catapult and fly to the base on land.

Umm, wern't CVE converted tankers and whatnot? That's a four ton jug. BTW Read "Hunter Killer" by William T. Y'Blood for more CVE goodness, for those intrested.
