From the description given by a local I think I can identify this animal
"Mrs Munchausen said the animal seen rifling the bins was like a fox but bigger with a long body, long tail , pointy ears and stripes"

'tis indeed.
I did a quick Google while my neighbour was telling me the tale, found the pic , shes yelling "thats it!" (my moneys still on the Lurcher or a big fox and too many cans of Tennants)
