that cheatin' feeling (DGen) again...

yeah, i got into the offline DGen mode to try my hand at the Pacific flying a P-40 in defense of the Aussies...

neato, for the first two runs. nailed a Hamp on my first run, and another on my second (and got the hell shot out of me but managed to glide her in for a belly landing.)

the third run though, i was HOT! shot up two Hamps and shot down two more! even put a few rounds into a Betty before the super sniper gunner put a fist-sized hole in my trusty warhawk's wing. i said, "enough!" and wagged out of the firing zone and landed, patting myself on the back for a job well done.

yes, sir... two heavily damaged EA (maybe even would have been kills if i'd stayed in the game longer as i doubt at least one of them made it home) and two confirmed kills (enemy aircraft destroyed in bold letters both times for them) and a slight damage to a bomber. yes sir...good job. and right over the airfield too...in plain sight of any observer.

except when i got out of the game... NO accept button to accept the mission. WTF!

all that hard work and good luck for NOTHING! graaaaaaaa!

DGen has cheated me out of kills before...but not like that!

(burst into ole Hank Williams song..."Your Cheatin' Heart---will tell on you!")

anybody else have this happen in DGen?

Two questions spring to mind:

1. What were the difficulty settings - "No Instant Success" switched or not?

2. What were the mission objectives? Sounds like you did a great job but if the objective was reconnaissance and you did not fly over the waypoint then you will not see the "Mission Completed" message.

I use Dgen and if you have "No Instant Success" switched on then you need to get the "Mission Completed" message to be able to apply the result when you end the mission.

Hope this helps :)

Know THAT feeling oh too well Beo.
Back in the day when I was running Top Gun: I was about 6 miles out on bingo fuel, got as much height as I dare and came in to do a perfect 3 point landing at Miramar with no engines. I was so proud. Then the mission failed message came up!

They say any landing you can walk away from is a good one, so I guess the best solution is to walk away, get a beer, congratulate yourself on your flying skills and cuss the programmers

right, sneaky... especially the get a beer part.

i've actually decided to delve into the DGen coding myself to see if i can figure out the thing.

more on my findings later.
