I'm thinking of buyuing myself a nice 19"LCD display due to some crazy things my currend CRT is doing (five yrs old:))

I want something good for movies, games and using microsoft office:)

Any ideas,suggestions, recomenendations?

What should I take into account while looking at technical details?

... about buying a LCD monitor instead a CRT one. I´ve been told - this information is certainly antique - that LCD screens are not able to dispaly as quick as CRT ones the changes in the graphical information coming from the graphics card. Saying this I´ve got a feeling that my information is a very old one and technology has pushed forward already ...

Hunter82 will be suggesting an LCD for my new rig when he calls back. I'll let you know what he said.

If you read an article that says LCD's aren't good for gaming, check the date of that article.

There are no VESA standards for response time yet, maybe next year. One manufacturer's 4ms may be another's 8ms, etc. Your best bet is to judge with your own eyes. Specs can get very confusing. Even among the industry folks get confused. Black to white, black to white to black, inter grays, gah!

There are no refresh rate issues to deal with. Better on the old eyes, at least that's what folks have said to me - less eyestrain/headaches (maybe they were using low refresh rates?). Quality is better at least for good ($$) ones. Certainly something I will consider for my next rig. If you have the space CRTs are still a great choice however.

I have one also and no probs with ghosting etc. They are all around the 8ms mark now so no ghosting etc that is noticeable.
Mine is around the 15ms mark and I dont see no ghosties

I've had no problems with my Flatscreen monitor and have been running it for 10 months.

When you first set it up you need to spend the time calibrating and adjusting settings but once done they work great. At first I noticed something a bit odd that I couldn't put my finger on- the monitor sits on a shelf built into my desk and the screen ended up several inches further away from my eyes than I was used to as the unit took up so much less space. Depending on your set up it may be the same.

this summer we have a cornfield opposite the house. And we had a plague of corn lice. They are tiny little flying bugs about 2mm long. One got stuck in my lcd between the first screen layer. It crawled around for a few days and now its gone to corn lice heaven leaving me the corpse which looks like a couple of dead pixels!!

I have no idea how I can get it out!!

Call them thunder-flies where I am. As you say a pain as they manage to crawl into small spaces... like picture frames between the glass and the picture.
