technical requirements

Post by Aidan2 » Sun Sep 04, 2005 8:35 am

Ok, this one is gonna make me feel like an idiot (which, by the way, I frequently am). I applied a month ago to join the Fightin' Irish and then went off to support a modest US Army exercise in Asia (Ulchi Focus Lens, to those of you in the know). Just got back and I got a question already:

What do I need to fly with the FI for my probationary period? I got a computer (obviously) with a sidewinder 2 joystick, beer (duh!) and the occasional (non-western) wench to interfere with my extraordinary virtual flying skills. Can anyone tell me what else I might need that I don't have, like, say, some sort of voice/audio capability, a better joystick, some other software, and, oh, I don't know, whatever, et cetera....ad nauseum.

Remember, you are dealing with a technical lowbrow here. Please use words with small syllables and a vocabulary suited to a lower level elementary school student.

Cheers, Aidan Bothwell

Lowenbräu!

:beer:

You'll need 'TeamSpeak' - it's comms software -

http://www.goteamspeak.com/downloads.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You'll need to download 'Hyperlobby' -

http://hyperfighter.sk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That's the game server thingy that we use to meet up on. It's easy to install and is safe, despite what one or two crackpots have suggested....

Hope this helps Aidan!

And say hello to those Occidental beauties for me ;)

You'll need a set of headphones with a microphone.
If you can afford them, rudder pedals are a real plus.
Also, if you're really "in the money" TrackIr is a great piece of kit to have, I could'nt do without mine.

Aidan and Madmike

Great- sounds like people as new to this as me!.

I've got Hyperlobby up and running- it was dead easy to set up and runs a charm and I'm in the process of getting Teamspeak going (waiting for a headset to arrive).

I'll keep a look out on hyperlobby and can recommend Sunday night excursions with this lot, I did my first last night and it was a great laugh- getting shot to bits never felt so good!. I enjoyed it so much I'm going to have a lash on Wednesday as well (work and wife permitting) so maybe see you there?.

Cheers
