First online victory... do you remember yours?

I found this interesting thread from ubi forum.... Well, do you guys remember?

This is my story...

Oh, yes i remember..... that good old il-2 sturmovik was the first game that i played online... I had been playing it offline, for couple of months, when my friend asked me; why not play it online? well... why not??

First i thought that playing online would be expensive and getting online difficult, but to my surprise, it wasn´t.

But flying online...? i was shocked Since i had never flown il-2 with somewhat realistic settings, i had to figure out how to take off, first... when i finally got in the air, the next trick to learn, was how to STAY in air. I stalled about 150 times, before i could actually stay in the air more than 10 minutes...

First fights were very difficult, because number of times, if i wasn´t shot down by the enemy, i managed to stall my plane, and therefore crashed and burned.

But then came the day, i had been waiting for so long... I found a big furball from the sky... maybe 5 enemies and 4 friendlies. I joined the fight, and pretty soon i got in the 6 of some enemy who was so obsessed of chasing my teammate, that he forgot to cover his arse...

I fired my 4 20mm cannons (i was flying a hurricane) and a few lucky shots ripped off his ailerions... he bailed, and that was the first time i got to make my "Tally Ho"-announcement online. 5 seconds after my very first kill, i stalled of course and had to bail out from my spinning plane

It´s been a little over a year now since that happened, and there is still a lot to learn about flying online... that´s why i love il-2 and PF
;)

Hmmm....

I remember having a dreadful time of it trying to take off in the IL2... but that was FM bug... wasn't it????

I remember agreeing with myself that I should just try to stay alive and annoy the shyte out of the enemy by making it hard for them to kill me before trying to actually kill anyone.

This worked well, and my focus on staying alive proved useful ;)

However, once I'd managed to kill something I remember throwing caution to the wind and being shot to shyte on a VERY regular basis :)

Helps you learn quickly though :D

It all seems like so long ago now though.... 2001 or something I think....

I wonder how many hours I've spent with this game?

Hmmm....

Well, at least I still love it :D

Happy Ferret Afternoons!

Let me think, my first multiplayer kill would be in a two person game using keyboards and a game pad between my friend Mike (Mad/Cougar) at my place. But that was on my local LAN and we were just messing around. So I wouldn't really count it :D Mostly crazy head ons in FWs.

Then a little bit after that I went to a friends LAN party and four of us played IL2 while everyone else was playing some 3D shooters. Two of the guys there had actualy played online. I managed to get a lucky shot at about 500meters out in a Yak9T and got shot down or stalled many many times. But that again wasn't on the internet.

Then I went online in a P-39 for my first time from home. The game didn't run very well and I got shot down twice and stalled many times and had really bad FPS. So I didn't play IL2 online again untill I bought FB and a new computer.

When I got FB I knew I needed a lot of practice before I'd be any good online so I practiced for a few weeks in the quick mission builder flying the Hurricane MkIIc. After I got decent against the AI I went online and managed to get a few kills on my first day :D In my Hurricane MkIIc. So all that training agaisnt the AI did help :D Man I really like those 4 20mils

I don't actually remember my first online kill...

...but I do remember killing Falcon a lot!

There he was, finally past the "crash and burn" phase, and had just taken off in his spiffy recently spawned 109. As he was making a pretty decent final approach I was in my fave IL2 and spotted him. Actually I didn't know it was him. I assumed it was some poor sot out of ammo.
My 90 degree deflection shot totally destroyed the cockpit, and I could hear Falcon screaming all the way down " Helo, was that really you!?" over and over and over and over and over and over and... well you get the picture. :)

The downside was that he was my team mate.

I still cry when I think of it.

Naw, I can´t remember my first one ...

My very first online kill was a Fw190. The map had some mountains and I chased him around in the middle of them. I was flying the Yak-9K and I nailed my foe with the nasty 45mm cannon 8) A lucky shot right into the root of his wing.

Mmmmm....

about extending military service in Finland because of the war in the tennis racquet factory?

Could mbe mistaken. All this goodswill has me fluffy mind a little on the boiled lobster side.

Pink, you might say....

Don't forget to have someone take some good photos of you in your best uniform - you'll regret it if you don't.....

Here's one of me the day I was released from my service unit....

We were known as the Irish Free Rangers.
