Turbine engines have taken more than a few turns (no pun intended) in various efforts to increase efficiency and reduce weight.

The Wikipedia mention of the change from Whittle's "reverse-flow" concept to a relative "straight-through" design not only eliminated a bearing (saved weight) but also increased the efficiency. Both prime considerations in engine design.

LOL , just been fitting some industrial duct fans to the amp rack in the pub (what with the heat from a 7k rig and all the beer coolers, stuff was starting to trip the thermal cut-outs)

They're not too different in design to the centrifuge fan in the pic, and they really kick up a draught.

It's just as well they're electric and got plastic housings, otherwise I'd have the fastest mountain bike in S. London
