Arne in my 'neddish' youth gadje was the name we gave to a guy basically. Wee bit insulting though.

Like..... 'Hey gadje, square goes noo?'

meaning, 'Excuse me young sir, would you kindly care to partake in some fisticuffs?'

It's apparently a Romany Gypsie word meaning a non-Gypsie man, hense the slight insult.
