no!no!noooooo!

Post by :FI:Cider » Fri Mar 04, 2005 5:55 pm

why me?

the company i work for was recently bought by a MUCH bigger company and the new owners came to visit their prey today....

besides i like to work in small companies and i hate to be part of a multinational enterprise (and i really liked our old boss. he was tres cool and most of all didn't show up very often :D :D ) i had a meeting with some IT-honcho of our new owner (he was wearing a TIE! our standard dresscode the "old" way was a led zeppelin t-shirt, simpsons on christmas..)

"mr. cider, you'll be glad to hear that we trade all the mail and internet traffic now via one of our own servers/doodads located in (insert far away location here).bandwith is exceeded too! but i fear fighting-irish.org is NOT a work-related website.
CAD.de is work-related , but the forums consist of a off-topic area, we can't tolerate that, sry"

they are going to shut down our trusty 90mhz pentium running suse linux which handled the complete mail and internet traffic in our office! this computer is like a friend to me! it's like killing a puppy! i now have a mega-gazillion mBit internet connection at hand and all it is used for is some nail-painting secretarys sending dog-damned reports to some remote hq in hahah/dribsdrü!
gone are the days of lightning-speed patch-downloads...

"mr.cider, we like your draftings but please bear in mind that you have to use our great company-wide cad-standards."

i hate you. i hate your company and most of all i hate your standards. it´s not just because i hate the system (why do i have to call layers for eg. a wall "tr3_45tzu_878wg_uz9" and not "wall") but i have to change about 500 block and 30 handmade applications just because some of your eggheads decided "wall" sounds to rural!!!??????

i really loved my work. i could rant on and on but that´s not the place i think. glad i could write this off my chest, though. i think i`ll meet some workmates and drink meself into oblivion... (what`s the irish word for hangover? - morning)

cya!

I had "the chat" from our IT guy back in January. He was decent enough though - I'm allowed look at the forums at lunchtime and outside of work hours... but as far as the big brother part goes, I agree Cider, it sucks big time :(

It'd be cool if there was a program which routed your internet traffic through a dummy domain like http://www.businesslistings.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or somthing that sounded sort of official... or better yet, one that showed up on the proxy server as a 'proper' website that they could visit for themselves but that was in fact just a portal through which you could browse the boards all the live long day!

Gen, is such a thing possible?

Okay, now send me the application!!!

Come to think of it, if you set up your browser not to use the proxy connection, will alarms go off straight away in the IT office, or will you just not be able to connect to the net at all?

Don't worry Cider mate, you'll get used to it. It takes time, and there are periods of intractable boredom, but you get used to it.

-Moog... or rather that used to be my name. Now it is 472-B-5598282-AA

Gosh! I heard about this procedure already - remember I´m still unempoyed and this since 10 years - and I feel with both of you. Nobody likes to be observed ... me neither by my own wife!!!!  ;)
But I wouldn´t like the idea to think about every site I´m going to visit while being in office. Watch out, folks! The Stasi is back ...

More over I´m sorry about the bunch of work you´re facing now, Cider. Modifying lots of files just because of a new "system" is a real torture ... it seems that the new guys want to check your ability to cringe ... :-s

Be careful what you´re gonna do there, m8! Maybe they gonna fire you after you´ve finished the modifications ...

Lord! I hope for you they won´t do this!!! But as you know nothing is really secure nowadays ... these manager guys have no scruples to kick everybody in order to make some Euros more ... :(

@ Moog: unfortunately I´m sorry but I don´t know if this is possible ...

Auf Wiedersehen, meine Herrschaften!

Nunc est bibendum - Let's start to drink!

Cider I feel for you man
(why do i have to call layers for eg. a wall "tr3_45tzu_878wg_uz9" and not "wall")
You see they need to standardise things, thats normal.

But they can't just call it "wall" because thats too simple, anyone can call a layer used for walls "wall" and they would feel that all their fancy schooling and higher education, diplomas and degrees would not count for much if any Tom, DIck of Harry can come up with "wall".

So you see you shouldn't worry about it, it's because of their insecurity and social inadiquacy that they force the real people to bend to their will.

Be secure in the knowledge that it's they that have the problem and look upon it as humouring someone who should be pittied more than laughed at.

And if they refer to layer tr3_45tzu_878wg_uz9 just say "oh you mean the wall layer"

Don't let the bastages grind you down!

Post by :FI:Fenian » Fri Mar 04, 2005 8:41 pm

hump a caddy week....

No... not on the golf course... sickos!!!!

Rules.. this is happening EVERYWHERE - if you know what I mean.

Common platforms, common parts, plants open to produce anything on wheels...

I was hoping GM would sell Saab so it could get back to making great cars without having to send its profits to the US.....

I don't understand buy, screw, starve and leave either..... especially when GM need a TRUE premium brand in Europe.... no sense to it at all....

If any of you guys are wondering what all this is about:
