Gobble Gobble

Post by :FI:WillieOFS » Sun Jan 16, 2005 4:46 am

Took my stepson huntin up in Clay County, TX. My sister and her husband have a nice ranch up there. This weekend is a "Special Youth Season" for those 16 and under. My stepson is 10 and has yet to kill his first deer.

We were hoping for a deer to wander by the feeder. One little doe showed for a bit and he passed on takin a shot. He missed a nice buck from this spot a couple of weekends back and he was hoping for another crack at the bucky boy. We had a good time watching these clowns scarfin up the corn.

Before any body gives me any flak about huntin by a feeder, I'm not hunting. ;) I want the boy to get one and learn how to handle his first one correctly. I'll teach him to still hunt when he can go for more than 5 seconds without talking about something. I don't own a kid sized centerfire and at the rate he's growing, I'm not going to invest in one. Full sized rifles are still a bit long for him so he has to shoot from a rest. I've got him waggin my old 257 Roberts that I built on a Mexican small ring 98 action back in 71. Got him wearing ear protectors too. He griped a bit at first and then I reminded him how deaf I am now and asked him if he wanted that. ;)

I won't comment on the whole huntin' thing

but I do wish you and the boy enjoy each other's company

and grow and bond together

and share as many good memories and times as you can.

Parenting is SO tough!!!

Almost as tough as stayin' alive for five minutes on CoD:UO!

...

almost.

<sigh>

Okay, if you need help tellin' them apart from guys

you're gonna need to explain how (she?) got into this world

in the first place.

Now,

where did I put that "People Identification Handbook"

with all those silhouettes ...
