Ringnes AS, which took over the production of bottled Tou beer, has decided to shut down its production in Stavanger leaving 107 people without a job. Bottled Tou beer was a local icon for Stavanger.

The beer was brewed for the first time in 1855 at Tau, just outside Stavanger. The brewery moved to Stavanger in 1901 and in 1974 production was moved to Forus, Stavanger.

Whatever happened to HANSA beer? Haven't seen it over here in years. It used be really cheap compared to other "imports" abd was pretty tasty as I recall. It was good, even down to the juicy bits laying on the bottom of the bottle!!

I haven't seen it here since the early 80's. If I recall correctly, it was in green bottles then.

It´s really a shame ... we still have this here in Germany, too. Lots of small local breweries disappear from the market because they couldn´t stand the pressure and/or have been sold to bigger breweries ... it´s not a loss of jobs only ... in some ways it´s a loss of (beer) culture aswell ... :(

But I´ve spotted some kind of retro-trends in my part of the woods ... all these new-ish trendy drinks like vodka & lemon are losing their former dominating positions on the German market ... I hope that our beers will fill up these positions again ...

Prost!!!

Yup...

We lost Pripps brewery in Göteborg - it was sold to Carlsberg and they closed it.... they still make the beer though....

Mind you the beer was/is crappy.....
