If you've re-partitioned and formatted the drives that should really have cleaned house. One more thing to try. Download the dos-based diagnostic tools for your hard disk from the manufacturer's site, they should fit on a floppy. Delete all partitions on the drive and boot from the diagnostic floppy...

If it's a new system it could be based on the Nforce4 chipset and a lot of people reported corrupt downloads if they installed the Nvidia Network Access Manager and Nvidia Firewall software. They've been bug-ridden since release and Nvidia have all but said that there will be no further development....
