a whole other country
So, it's time to show you our vacation pictures to ... hey wait, where y'all goin'?!
Well, those of you who are staying for the beer and chips, here are a few snaps of our intrepid trek to Texas hill country.
Beautiful country; I'm sorry we can't show you some of the more dramatic stuff, but Eileen was holding the camera and when the road got a wee bit too tight or steep or high or
slippery or animally? she held on to the bike and not the camera.
crystal clear water, few water moccasins
cow town, we saw horses tied up next to bikes ... cool!
one of the smaller hills
what? no deer?
mind the gap?
bu-full stuff
looks innocent? Eileen almost lost the camera and I almost lost my lunch when the road dropped off and canked hard to the left ... this happened ... a lot
more stuff
behind me is a famous BBQ spot ... the brisket fell apart, lept into our mouths and melted there
gawd!
here's the brave adventurer chasing bears and saving raccoons and ...
no ... wait ... he was just looking for a place to erm ... study the native uhm ... grasses
so, here we are back in our hotel room ... okay, where's the clicker?!
~~~
and here's a short fil-um ...
Thanks for sharing Stu some nice pics there apart from the Grass inspection LOL and what was with the slow driving in the vid. I was expecting some old granny to drive past on a mobility scooter while flicking you the Bird
Very reminiscent of some parts of Colorado. Thanks for the pics! Good barbecue is one of the great joys of life.
Very nice.
And what did you think of the "herb"?
Looks a lot like most of central New Mexico, just more "Texasy". The good Barbecue and Clear Water are always a bonus!
Yeah, the slow driving part ...
again, the road was very tricky. I mean, they give you a T-shirt an' all IF you do all three sisters, (FM335, 336 and 337.) The moment we tried to get 'er up to 50 or so and get some leanin' goin' the railing disappeared, the road turned hard, the grade changed and/or we suddenly found ourselves a foot from a 500 foot cliff. I might have pushed it a wee bit more, but Eileen was at the edge of freakin' a few times* and when the camera came out we went even slower.
We had to dodge three deer and during a break a boar broke out of the woods and came at us. You never saw two people jump on a bike so fast! Thank dog for the sissy bar or I might have lost da wiff. Would have had to get a new one an' all.
Eileen and her own bike ... hmmm, good question. We'll see.
Yeah, we have Colorado on the schedule for next year, but Eileen is lobbying hard for ... and don't tell Willie ... a trailer. >shudder<
We would have continued on to New Mexico, but there was still about 350 miles of Texas in the way.
Injuns? Naw, that was a long time ago ... but there were those smoke signals beyond the ridge ...
... naw!
F
PS: We spoke to Snoop "Fernando" Baron on the phone. We tried to meet up near Austin, but after sunrise the temperature drops to around 35. That's 15 in mokelsider terms.
Sorry Snoo!
* So was I a time or two.
