Some router related questions ...

Post by :FI:Genosse » Sat Jul 17, 2010 7:32 pm

Folks!

I´ve recently bought the Netgear DG834B modem router since my oldest nipper also wants to get online. It seems that I´ve no problems connecting to the net: website content will be received quickly, emails can be send and received and even joining an IL-2 server via HL works fine for me. :D

Yet I do have problems hearing peeps on the TS server. All I hear is choppy cylon sounds (you remember Wolfhound´s transmissions?). I´m pretty new to routers so I´ve no idea where to set up what in order to get back to my daily online routines (TS, IL-2, ARMA2, etc.).

Any hints out there that I might follow?

Danke! :)

I have the Netgear DG834G here (I'm guessing the G/B is about which wireless protocol it uses)

You should not have to do any specific configuration on the router to enable TS to work correctly.

Only thing I have found since I got a new headset (well stole my wifes headset) is that I have to go into TS and test voice settings (literally just click the test voice button) otherwise I seem to generate a lot of background noise.

Another thing to think about is if you are going to host, I think you will need to set up port forwarding (inbound services) on the router, and assign an IP address to your PC (rather than you computer being automatically assigned an IP address).

You then forwardthe port to the IP address of your machine.

(Assign an IP address go to Control Panel/Network connections
>Right click connection
>Select properties
>Select TCP/IP
>Click Properties
>Select Use the following IP address

Settings IP address = e.g. 192.168.0.10
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway = 192.168.0.1 <this is default for my router so probably teh same for yours, but it will be the same IP address that you use to connect to the router for set up.same as your

DNS server settings - not sure if you can leave these blank, if not, pick them up from your router settings

Delcan, old bean!

You got there some nice relatives in your family ... could I meet that lady sometimes? =P~ =D]

Talking about the router: I´ve found a hint about the package loss I suffered on TS. It seems that the firmware 5.01.14 has its problems so I switched back to the 5.01.09 version. And what should I say? Teamspeak works again ...

Let´s see if I´ll be able to host IL-2 today ... :D
