New Pacific Campaign

Post by :FI:Nellip » Mon Sep 14, 2009 11:22 am

To ease poor Franks load I will write some new missions for the next few Sundays. :D

They will be based on a non-historical scenario of USMC forces supporting landings on a small group of islands, and IJA/IJN forces attempting to resist the landings. The missions will be written in 4.08 with no mods so anyone struggling with the modded files at the moment should be able to join. If the new official 4.09 version gets issued in the next few days then I might switch it to that.

USMC will fly from escort carriers, IJA/IJN from land and from carriers. I will use a 1943/44 plane set.

Action will be set on the fictional Oii Yuu islands - located just off the coast of Kent

Your all welcome - and 'twould be nice to see you back Vin.

One question to all - how long a flight to target do you want? My feeling is 20 minutes is about right - enough time to climb up to a reasonable height, but not too long to wait for the next mission if you get shot down during the action. I can do longer or shorter than that but speak up soon or I'll do what I want!

I recon 15-20 mins to get height is fine mate. We usually try to get three missions in so it should fit that fine. Come on back to the darkside Vin hehehehe

Would it be too much to ask if the carrier could nestle on up to the beach and lower our planes down onto a nice smooth runway and then pick us up later when we're through?

How long a flight? No more than three hours ... tops!

Well if you want a runway you'll have to fly blue mate

Thinking of making some of the blues "kamikazes" - that way you can take off from the island and the landing takes care of itself!

I wont be around this Sunday (work), but will be on for sure on the following. The kamikaze missions would be interesting, I dont mind strapping on a bomb and hitting a carrier.

I second that one Vin. Can we have the cherry blosoms dropping from a betty. That would be very cool.

Sorry, don't think it's a loadout option in 4.08, pretty though - oh, maybe you mean the flying bomb MXY7 Ohka?

Possible - but doesn't really fit the fictional time frame - however as this is not supposed to be historical, maybe I could ..............

If I can do it, I'll make sure it's a week when Vin can fly :D

EDIT - sorry, played with it a bit and the Ohka/Betty combo is AI only in 4.08 - we would need to fly the modded game to have these flyable. Looks like we are stuck with normal IJA aircraft acting as kamikazes. Looks like the Kamikaze missions started in autumn of 1944 so could fit them in this fictional scenario.

Oh well It was only an Idea mate and yeah your right they were used later just thought it would be fun to see if we could get in on a carrier in them :)

I'm happy with what ever mate but will probably opt for the blue side as I don't get on with yank crates LOL
