Mario Castoldi, the designer, had always thought that a high performance in-line engine was what the ac needed. From '34 -'37 there was a push in Italy to develope the radial engine and the MC.200 was elected to utilize it. It wasn't until '40 that the in-line was combined with the 200 and became the 202.
