Pets Over Poltava

Post by :FI:Falcon » Mon May 08, 2006 2:58 pm

I got another request last weekend.

You remember last weekend, when EVERYONE else was playing 4.04?!?!?!

Gah!

Okay, I'm gonna try a Pe2 skin. Probably a gray green camo FIS skin to get familiar with the model and then the recently popular fully total uber historical FI metal Tempest design thing whatever.

Which Pe-2/3 do you want for kicks or looks or performance or HE?

Thanks,

Falcon

Actually,

I AM helping a sweet Korean lass skin an Elf for Oblivion,

but I don't think it will stand up against any of our lads in a Spitfire.

Okay, the default Pe2 void is not bad, but it has

issues

kinna like Macca after his bedtime or Moog on a day with a "y" in it or Fen after a bottle of ...

whoa, that list will be to long for this post ...

anyway ...

the void will take a few days to correct just so all the lines match up.

I won't be doing my first Pet skin to historical accuracy,

that takes WAY too long,

especially with four or five different models to research,

but the one "all Pet" skin I make should be good enough to hunt.

Ugh!

The more I study the default void the more work I see that it needs. There are several stretched areas and I think the void artist NEVER thought the wings were actually intended to connect to the fuselage.

Now doing house, yard, kids, Oblivion and IL2 at the same time ...

this may take a while.

I have read the instruction book for Silent Hunter III fifty times, but no time to actually play it yet!

Yes, but normally, when time permits, I like to do it right. There are many different variants of the PE2/3 and each have their own panel, rivet, hatch, markings, etc. patterns.

But yeah ... the first one I do will be precise, but not necessarily accurate.

Jeez-ah-Pete!

Is there one line that is aligned with another on the flippin' void!?!

I need to make certain design decisions to make this thing look good. I have found no other Pe-2 skin or template on the web that addresses ANY/some of the matching issues. It seems that even some of the best skinners simply use the void and to heck if things blur or clip or don't line up or whatever.

It's not near as bad as the I-16 though. I still have nightmares on that one. ~shudder~

Anywho, here's a progress shot; fixing lines and matting issues and thinking about darker and lighter areas for later.

Creative?

Yeah, that's what I meant when I said "certain design decisions".

More design decisions ...

faded white rivets over blured black rivets creates good initial wear/texture effect.*
