Skin for a B-25...

Post by Skipper » Tue Oct 18, 2005 9:12 pm

Would any of you fine artists down there be willing to skin me an RAF style Camo skin for a B-25?

The gauntlett has been cast down. Are you man enough to accept the challenge???(unless of course you're a woman... :? )

erm....where was I?....Ah yes.......I only would like a few little details put on it:

a) RAF camo scheme for Lancasters so dark green and brown

b)The letters "AJ" for squadron identification and "G" in red

c)British roundels etc on the wings would be nice aswell if possible.... ;)

I would do it , but my usually results in....as the British government calls it...."deferred success"....(FAILURE!)

If no-one can do this or no-one can be arsed to do this no bother , it was just a thought. :)

Cheers in advance mates

Skipper

PS-Yes , I am trying to get a Dam Buster style skin  :D

Oh, what sad times are these when passing ruffians can
import non-Irish skins! There is a pestilence upon this land,
nothing is sacred. Even those who arrange and design skins
are under considerable economic stress at this period in history.

Com'on mates! How's 'bout some good ol'in-house skinnin'?

...

nee!

I have been wanting to skin for what seems like months, just been to busy with real life stuff. Hopefully things will slow down soon and get back into it a little bit :?

I can't promise anything "great" but let me see if I can find some of the .psd's I used to use for this sort of thing... I'll see what I can come up with...

Or at least give it a go, as it were...

Well this is the sad entry that I came up with...

Post by :FI:Snaphoo » Sun Oct 23, 2005 7:50 pm

It doesn't yet have the AJ Squadron identification, nor does it have the G plane identification... But these can be added... With little difficulty...

But the placement may be less than historically accurate, as you'll note with the "FI" Squadron placement of the two examples I'll be showing you shortly... You see, the waistgunner positions are offset, not allowing the Identification to stradle the roundel as it was meant to in other examples that I've seen... This can be "faked" I think, as I've just come up with a way it might work, but at the time I painted this one, I couldn't think of a way to make it work...

Anyway... Here they are, on someone elses template, without further ado...

And the FI version...

Anyway, let me know if this might fit what you're looking for... It's been to long for me to properly give credit to whomever actually made the template to properly give them credit. I can only state that the template isn't mine.

Look to the force young padaw ...

oh, nevermind.

On the Irish rounds the green drip starts at ~12 o'clock and drips counter-clockwise to ~8 o'clock.

...

and the RAF rounds are upside down.

Only experts can tell.

;)

So like the wings then? Or are the wings backwards as well?

And do I need to wait until about 8 o'clock for the drips to be absolutely right...

I've got the RAF roundels the right way... round... now and so I was looking forward to fixing the Irish ones, but I'm a bit confused.

If the drip is from 12 to 8, that would mean that the larger part of the drip would be at eight, correct?

If this is the case, I'll fix them as soon as I am able, and repost... if this is not the case, then I'll need to know because by now I've got it all bassackwards...

Snoo!

The wings are "wrong" too

think of the leading edge of the wing as 12 o'clock

and then drip the drop counter-clockwise

skinny pointy end at 12

big round end at 8

then orange, then white.

Refer to your kitchen tap for an example.

;)

Post by :FI:Dutchman » Mon Oct 24, 2005 12:59 pm

Great job Snaphoo,

Ehh can i have one with the "FIS roundrels type 4" created by a some guy named Dutchman and then this name was pronounced officially by:
our honoured member of the:
"First and Only New Orleans Flying Ferrots Brigrade".

Sir F. Alcon da Ferrot *.

that's like the R A F Roundrel but then Green White Orange dots (the orange dot is the middle smallest)

* ferrot = ferret pilot

Thanks in advance

Dutch..,

Thanks for the kind words all... but since Falcon has been kind enough to point out my misguided roundel placement... I should fix that before anything.... and apparently the RAF rounds are still upside down!

Gah!
