Strange stutter....freeze,whatever....help!

Post by :FI:Macca » Sun Jul 31, 2005 6:19 pm

Maybe one of our brave FIs could help me with that....

At first i thought I had this problem with BF2 only....

but

I have this problem with Silent Hunter III, BF2, and some other stuff....

When I play I experience some strange stutters - each few minutes, sometimes more often, sometimes even more often. Screen freezes and from my noble speakers I can hear last sound but looped, after the freeze ( it usually freezes for about 4-6 sec) the game performs all the movements I made with mouse so on during the freeze.

I tried : reinstalling my sound drivers ( SB Live 5.1 Platinum)

various graphic drivers

nforce drivers

reinstalling Direct X

removing Service Pack 2

I praued - almost

I got very angry - didn't help either

Anyone...any ideas?

Could it be that you CPU is getting into its final state? Or maybe your memory? Is there a way for you to exchange both in order to find the reason for your technical issue?

Your issue´s description reminds me of changing from running IL-2 game onto desktop and vice versa (looped sound) and in my opinion it has something to do that my system has reached its maximum performance (the task manager always tells me that IL-2 needs almost 99% of the PC performance ... a rather inaqurate value, I´d say ... but it´s Bill´s OS, isn´t ?).

Finally, I´d say it´s hardware issue ...

My 2 Euro cents ... ;)

Thx dor reply, Gen

Well, I am not sure if I can check it this way, maybe reinstall of windows would help.As you said , I checked with the task manager and everything was ok, You know, I don't have this issues with CoD nor Il-2 .Now I have an idea that this may be somethig that Battlefield 2, sH3 and a few other revcently released games have in common. Hmm.....Anyway, it is not crashing to desktop.Weird.I wish Creative released some new drivers for my old good SB Live 5.1, once it was agreat card:)

Maybe it is the time for a console:)

do a online update at creative labs!

My pc stuttered with bf2 and I have 1Gb RAM Athlon64 3700 and a x800 pro

and found that my audigy was the problem. After I did the online update (a bit like windows update) it cured the problem. I also used the omega drivers for my video card.

Hope this helps. It sure beats a reinstall!!

Hi Macca,

The only ones I can see for your card are dated 10 mar 03 from the creative site.

Yep Stoov,

i had the same, i updated my audigy 2 drivers and ... solved..

but it can be the combination too I've also have the x800 xt with the audigy 2 so it might not help for Sir Mac A.

further my system runs on an ASUS
P5AD2-E Premium

P5 Ai Proactive Series
-Intel 925XE chipset
-Intel LGA775 Pentium 4 CPU
-Dual-Channel DDR2 533
-Intel PAT
-PCI Express Architecture
-Wireless LAN onboard
-Dual Gigabit LAN
-1394b/a

so it's good to know what rig everybody have, because you can compare the systems and maybe sort out some problems that occur on some hardware combinations.

thx guys

i was browsing different nvidia and graphic cards , hardware as such and so on forums....coz I couldn't stand this stutter and freezes....

and....

i fixed it!

It was something like that....:

I have an Asus V9999 - Geforce 6800 Gt - it is quite unusual 6800GT, because it has RAM and CPU of lower clock rate, but the GPU is 6800 , so it is realy fast card but for reasonable price.

Anyway

Many 6800s have this problem - they have stutters and freezes in 3d games ( in my case SH3, BF2, FEAR demo, Rome TW etc) which use DirectX. That is why I didn't have these problems with Il-2 -I run it in Open GL.

The fix - disable AGP fast write, and to change the clock rate of 2dd clocks in such way, that they are not exactly the same.

So....

Everything runs just great now!!!!

These cards seem to have problems with nforce 3 250/pro - quipped motherboards.

I've got an Epox 8KDA3+
1 GB or Ram - 2x 512 400 Mhz
SB Live 5.1 Platinum
AMD 3000+ CPU

So if u have some strange stutters with yer 6800s - ceck this solution out.
