Interested in a Dynamic Online Campaign Mate?

Post by :FI:TacticalS! » Fri Jan 28, 2005 7:21 pm

Hello Folks!

Well, back yet again in light of the interest (and fun!) some of us have had this week with COOPs to ascertain whether the time is right to consider a weekly online Campaign with those interested/available.

Been exploring a third-party dynamic campaign generator instead of the stock one (DGEN) that comes with IL-2. For those not familiar with DCG, not only does it offer different missions than DGEN, and much greater customization, but it tracks all the events of one mission and applies them to the next, resulting in a truly dynamic experience with front lines moving and folks feeling they are making a real difference.

Some highlights to mention is that pilots' stats are tracked throughout the campaign and MEDALS are awarded (that's right you medal boys we get them with DCG! :D ). Also, flights can be reduced to 50 km (and possibly lower). My thoughts would be to play 1 or 2 sessions weekly with a core bunch of mates, having other folks join us whenever they can of course.

So in the absence of no online wars (except for that apparently "unbalanced" Bellum one ;) ), are there mates (especially in North America due to time zones) that might be interested in a weekly session or two of campaign missions? If so please provide the following information:

Likely Day(s) and Time(s) Available
Preferred Session Duration
Preferred Theatre - Eastern/Western/Pacific
Preferred Role - Exclusive Combat Pilot/Mixed (some Groundpounding/Bombing Too)

Update (Friday, January 28th @ 3:21 p.m. Atlantic Time Zone)

Paul (DCG Creator) has informed me that the upcoming 3.08 version will allow you to reduce the desired flight distance as low as 30 kilometres. This is the distance I generally use offline, and I feel provides sufficient distance without the boredom of long flights. Obviously a higher value could still be considered if requested.

With regards to medals, the program keeps track and rewards accordingly, but there is no way of displaying the image (just text) of the medal (just thought I would mention in case someone thought there was).

Might be interested. ;)

Most weeks I am available any evening from 10:00 p.m. until 12:00 midnight. Ideally, though, Friday evening would be my first choice followed by Saturday. Least preferred nights would be Tuesdays and Thursdays (and Wednesdays are not available - Snoop hosts training).

Would like to aim for 1-hour session if during the work week. If on Friday, 2-hours (midnight +) would be good.

Would be willing to fly any theatre - but prefer the Eastern followed by the Western theatre (Pacific would likely have long flight distances, even with all the changes/improvements).

Like to explore a mix of DF (i.e., escort/intercept/protect) and some groundpounding/bombing.

im also interested!!

Id like to fly an online campaign that track the pilots over the campaing with medals, stats, etc.

Id prefer the western front, but thats just me. Id fly eastern also. A mix of bombing, escort, patrol would be cool. Some historical in there would be awesome also!

I think 2 hours is good per night, thurs and fridays are good for me, but i can be on most nights.

Thanks for the interest mates! :D

My hope is that DCG will be updated this week with the new option to reduce the flight distance down to 30 km. I'll wait until that update is made available. We could be starting as earlier as this Friday!

Some of my initial thoughts - please let me know if this does/doesn't sound good.

(a) Russian theatre - It has the most airbases to hopefully ensure mission diversity using a 30 km flight distance, plus I would like to play around with these planesets again.

Later, or even concurrently once we get underway, I see no reason why we can't possibly play a Western theatre campaign too Napier! :)

(b) As mentioned, short flight distances, historically-based, squad/wingman approach, exploring a variety of mission types.

(c) Externals on for those who bail/die before mission ends, with landing each mission (unless majority has bailed/died).

(d) Icons with 2 km plane type and friendly name only. We can change this at anytime, including not using icons if folks want to add to the challenge. I plan on using the Speedbar and Map Indicator as usual. Again we can change this to increase challenge as we progress if there is a desire.

(e) Finally, and most importantly, I intend hosting the campaign on Friday evenings between 10:00 p.m. until midnight + (Atlantic Time Zone).

---------

Some further thoughts - I'm hoping to customize DCG to make some fun missions for us mates. Perhaps down the road, especially as other mates join us, we might have enough for both sides. Until then I suspect we will be flying together.

Also, if this gets going and we would like more folks maybe we can see if non-squad members might be interested. This could be a great way to recruit some newcomers looking to play with a squad and/or make some connections to other interested squads.

Anyway, just some thoughts for down the road if things work out they way we hope.

------------

I'll let you know in this thread when we will start.

Anyone else interested please drop us a line here in this thread.

Regards,

Stop copying and pasting that same reply Falcon!

It sure would be a blast to have as many North American folks (who don't have a life on Friday evenings :D ) come and join us.

Keppoch you interested mate? What about you Willie, are you able to join us at that time? I know you have been enjoying offline campaigns, and this would be very similar mate.

What about some of the mates who enjoy online wars, I know this isn't the same but if more folks join, later we could be fighting against other human players which would bring us much closer to these online wars.

Tac!

When you decide on a definite time

post the info in the "News" section of the web site

so that all will be reminded each time they enter.

If you have a problem posting there ...

have an adult help you.

Er um, well. I did see the double meaning and it is pretty funny hearing people cracking up when saying it but for clarification it is Ianus. Having said that sometimes when flying I anus is pretty accurate as well, maybe I'm being to harsh on myself, I need therapy!

Anyone flying this evening because I'm gonna get drunk and see if I do any better. Maybe afterwards the most suitable pronunciation will become apparent!!

Here's Our Campaign Choices!

Post by :FI:TacticalS! » Mon Jan 31, 2005 2:42 am

Too many for me to pick just one mates so lets pick one together. :D

Also, give me your thoughts on the following guys:

(a) Icons - yes/no;

(b) Externals (which I think must be yes unless you guys don't mind looking at a blank screen for 10 minutes or so - but can YOU be trusted :-k );

(c) Landing - You want me to require all active pilots must land before next mission?

BTW, I downloaded 3.08 DCG that gives us a 30-kilometre flight distance, so while improvements and options will continue to come our way, we should be ready this Friday! I'll make a formal announcement once we finalize the details.

Looking forward to these Friday evening sessions!
