some turkey.. The lil bambi's must have heard that there was a mean assed 10 year old sniper in the pasture. They wouldn't co-operate. Late this evening Bub's trigger finger was gittin itchy and he asked me if could shoot a turkey. I said "I don't know, CAN YOU?" I admonished him to take a head shot ONLY or not to shoot at all. My reason for this was, that since he was shooting a 257Roberts that I built in '71 with a 28" Douglas supreme barrel on it, that thing flings those lil 25 cal pills downrange at some serious speed. I really didn't want to see a perfectly functioning turky vaporized and splattered over a quarter of an acre. ( don't axe me how I know that can happen, I saw my dad do that very thing with that gun one day  ) Bub drew his bead on a big "jake" ( young tom) about 65 yds downrange and let fly. He hit him where the neck joins the body.. It was an instant kill and no meat was damaged. The bird never knew what hit him. Now he knows why I tell him where to shoot what and I think he'll listen the next time. ;)

Bub did the dirty work cleaning the bird and we got about 12 lbs of meat off the lil feller. He'll fry up nicely.

Sapper, they are a big bird compared to most of the birds you're used to seeing. Most of the size of that bird we're holding is feathers, The males can fluff up to what looks like 3 times their normal size..

If this pic shows, this is what they look like when they're just cruising around.

Their heads are pretty ugly, but when the sunlight hits those feathers, it looks like polished bronze, It's really quite impressive.

Thanks for the compliments gents. I'm proud of the lil feller. The only other wild turkey that boy has been close to was one that his biological father ( hereinafter referred to as shyte head) killed. That shytehead killed one that weighed about 3 lbs (BABY) and he shot it 4 times..................... :? He then went on to try to impress the former family unit with his prowess as sportsman.
