I got the Dial-up ISP from Hell

Post by Guest » Tue Aug 31, 2004 11:31 pm

Sorry I couldn't come out and play on tuesday night. It looked like the entire platoon was there. I only have a dial-up ISP and on good days its only marginal; and tuesday was not a good day. At one point I had two bad guys in my sights; unfortuniately; due to MY lag they weren't really there when I blasted them. I tried serveral servers, all with the same results.
There's very little chance of getting a DSL ISP in the next few years as I really do live in 'the woods' (actually its closer to swamps, but lets not get technical).
I guess I'll just have to grab a game when I can.

Did you try to play COD without using Teamspeak? It could be that you bandwidth is too small to support both ... at least you were able to join my server ...

*sigh*

Anyway, it was good to see you there ... even for such a short time ...

Gen,
It wasn't just your server. Even servers I can usually can get into were bad; many 'connection interrupts'. I did try without TS also, no help. Maybe, it will be better tonight.

Hi Igor,

I solved my connection interrupts with a reinstall of cod.

Try the jolt 56k server to test your connection.

cheers

Well, the problem is obvious. I was working with my ISP technical support. I remote ping/tracert at around 300 ms (sometimes up to 1.5 sec.). Tech support says thats normal (?). They recommended I contact the game servers; they're obviously at fault; all 4500 of them!

I have feeling this is going to be a persistant problem until I get a high speed connect. Unfortuniately, high speed connections are not available here.

Hmmm... I have my ADSL going via phone network...

Though everytime someone calls me the connection closes...

Fenian is Retro, too, and I believe he has much the same prob.

High Speed is natch the only solution, but until backwater.com upgrades, we will all wait right here for you!
