It's a doddle. You've only got to 'climb' a couple of hundred feet. A lift takes you most of the way. Climb one of my scaffolds boys, forty five feet in the air with two tons of brick/stone, and YOU, (and a couple of other guys, who keep moving) swinging around, and that's all you will need. You will swear, after a couple of hours (to whatever deity you prefer) the chimney its very self is moving. It's called, or used to be called , 'sea legs' and men who work the towers or 'erections', as were awkwardly refereed to, are, men at sea (space), off the earth, but not beyond the reach of gravity, gravity is not just a good idea, it is a LAW, that one must understand and be prepared to react to. (people generally try to get out of the way of falling masonry) I have had a few serious close calls in my life. The worst is a call about a friend who came off a scaffold, at thirty plus feet, might as well be thirty thousand. You are hauling ass, to the middle of this planet, as fast as you can go in what, ten, twelve feet? Terminal velocity. The horror of falling nearly 1800 feet is having the time to realize how bad you, or someone else, screwed up to the point where you find yourself. At forty feet, you are no less a dead guy, you just don't have the time to dwell on it.

Without wanting to put not too fine a point on it I'd rather pluck the hairs off a dead dogs arse....with my teeth.

Now that is an image. I can't decide if going down a mine would be worse. Building the thing must be something.
