Lockup during sunday coop 30th nov

Post by Peeeeet » Sun Nov 30, 2008 9:58 pm

As i said on teamspeak i suffered a complete lock up while on the co-op :(, I had a green screen, sorta olive green colour :? with heavily stuttering repeating sound. I was guessing something might be overheating, so as i listen 2 u all still on the mission on TS i checked the graphics card fan..... to see that it was not turning at all.... im gunna have to do a little more testing but i'v never had this issue before with il2 :(
Anyone else have any other sudgestions ?

thankyou, Peeeeet

Edit-

After watching the fan for a while now im seeing its wobbling all over the place and sounds a bit like a teeny weeny tractor which i thought was just coming from an old case fan.

I'v got an 8800GT, only about a yr old. :|

Edit2-

You lot are doing your second coop mission :), I prodded around with riva tuner to see what the core temperature was and its around 60 idle and nearer 100 full load on fallout 3 :|

Sorry to hear you having probs mate. Check to see if the fan just needs a good clean mate. A very small amount of WD40 is always a winner.

After some tender loving care and a good old bit of hoover action  all seems alot better now, im gunna keep a good eye on things and have temperature on screen till im happy its gunna behave. Core temps went from 80-90 degrees C to around 50-60. Woo, i just hope no permanent damage was done.

Good to hear!
You would be surprised how hot video cards can get and still work alright. If you have room in your computer try and leave a slot between your video card and the next card empty, allows for some better air flow. I also added a second fan onto my tower to keep the temps down. One fan blows air in and another blows air out, on the opposite side.

Just a few ideas that are cheap that can help with the temperature build up in the case.

Saks posts are spot on m8!

I clean the fan blades on all my fans with qtips and alchohol! Everclear, or a good dark smokey Scotch works well! Hehe

(Rubbin alc)

Anyway do as sack said.. I also have a side fan blowing hard right at my vid card! My case is designed for it.

Hmm new update on things, while the fan runs fine, im getting lockups again on il2, temperatures are fine and it seems to only happen using the 4.091b switcher in the unified installer :( :( :(

Ok Peeeeet

I'm not sure what is happening with your 4.09b1m, as I have not used the unified installer. An option you might try, and it sucks as it is time consuming. I hope some FI member will sort me out if I might have missed a step here.

Anyways this is what I did.....are you ready?

1. Installed IL2 1946 and patch to 4.08
2. Copied the entire directory and pasted it into another folder (IL2 1946 MODDED, is what I named it)
3. Fired up the new IL2 and checked to make sure it ran.
4. Downloaded 4.09b1m from allaircraftarcade.com site
downloaded the following
0.93 sound mod
latest wrapper.dll file
aircraft installer (latest version)
AAA aircraft mod pack
all the new aircraft I wanted
the_slot map
Canon_UK map

And I installed these files in this order

4.09b1m (then ran the game to ensure it worked)
sound mod (I use 0.93 version)
aircraft installer (latest version, it will ask you during set up what sound mod if any you are using If I remember correctly)
AAA aircraft mod pack
latest wrapper.dll
Loaded up the game to see if it worked
Then I added the extra planes and maps

Or you can try the order below (links are still good I believe)

End result I have two copies of IL2 1946 installed, a 4.08m and a 4.09b1m version.

I also made a DVD with all these files on so I wouldn't have to download them again.

End state, it is time consuming and I and I believe Falcon had a heck of a time for awhile getting it to work, had the 60% crash, I had the 90% crash but it basically came down to the sequence of how the files were installed.

I figure if you can play Fallout 3 then you should not have any problems with 4.09b1m modded, I think it is just a glitch in the unified installer.

Goodluck!! ^:)  ^:|
