Any hints/tips??

Post by Sparrow » Wed Aug 27, 2008 11:21 pm

Im useless at dogfighting but Im told if I keep trying I'll get better but Im not soo sure as Ive been useless for ages. I just wondered if anyone could give me a few simple pointers or basic tips. For example how do I track other fighters? On many occasion a fighter has zoom pasted me and headed off behind. I usually turn and try and follow but they completely disappear and I just end up searching in vain.

Any help would be appreciated! :)

Be the hunter and not the hunted. Pick your target. Try to have altitude above him. Roll into a dive and make a pass. If you screw it up, don't try to turn hard to make it work. Pour on the gas and go back upstairs and then try it again.

Speed is life. Altitude above you, runway behind you, and fuel on the ground are totally useless. Don't fly a straight line for over two seconds in a hot area. Keep twisting a bit and turning slightly. Nothing major but just keep moving about and looking behind and above you.

Spend a lot of time in the QUICK MISSION BUILDER. Try multiple opponents and various scenarios. IF you're having problems getting beat by the AI, TAKE AWAY THEIR AMMO and slaughter them mercilessly.

The PILOT CAREERS can be fun too. Pick a campaign and fly it to the end.

Have fun and ask lots of silly questions. :D

We've all been there before and I'm probably still there. :? ;)

Hi Sparrow.

Do you have TrackIR?
Its pretty much a 'must have' for situation awareness as its called.

Its pretty much what Willie says- height and speed.

Trackir gives you a big advantage over someone who doesn't have it but you can make do with a hat switch on your stick.

Try setting up a flight of three unarmed bombers in the QMB and just practice gaining a position above and slightly behind, dropping down and whacking them. learn to get in close before you start firing and keep doing that until you are reliably putting all of them down then do the same with a fighter on Rookie setting and move up the difficulty settings as you go.

The best experience is on-line and Im afraid to say that the best way to learn is to get knocked down many times but study how your opponent jiggered you. I've been squad flying for three years and as the others can testify freqently get my arse handed to me on a plate. Frustrating- sometimes, but always good experience and round here fun !

Dont give up and good luck !

Sparrow,

You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em,
Know when to walk away and know when to run.
You never count your money when you're sittin' at the table.
There'll be time enough for countin' when the dealin's done.
