need help (as always )

Post by :FI:Wardog » Mon Mar 03, 2008 3:48 pm

Hi Guys

As you all know I am having marvelous problems with my mic at the moment. Apparently when I can be heard I sound like a robot but most of the time it is just scratchy and unaudable.

I have set TS up as shown in other areas and have downloaded the latest drivers for My onboard sound (yes I know onboard is usually the problem) but I have no choice at the mo as I don't have a spare card or a spare wallet from which to dip from.

I am using the dreaded Realtek HD Audio on there and wondered if anyone else has had the same problems and what they did to cure them short of throwing the bloody thing from the top of a large building

My Machine specs are:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 Processor
2GB DDR 2 667MHz Memory
Foxconn P4M9007MB-8KRS2H
500GB SATA Hard Drive
160GB SATA Hard Drive
- 20x DVD-RW
Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit
Speed-Link Black Widow Flightstick
19" Hannspree Widescreen TFT

Again I know the dreaded Vista but it come already installed and untill now I have had no problems.

Any Help would be welcome believe me LOL

Realtek HD Audio?

I´ve the same onboard sound system but I´m using a Plantronic USB headset ... so (unfortunately) I can´t use the Realtek HD Audio sound software. In the TS setting I use the USB audio device then ... and never had any troubles with it.

One remark: I can´t use any audio recording software either ... :(

On board sound?
First check latest drivers 27/02/2008 release

Can you do a "DXDiag" with Vista?

Check the sound from your mic in something other than TS.

Check the options available in TS, I find "Direct sound" works better, also if available use a different "device" for input/output and check that input levels aren't to high resulting in clipping.

Also check your "bandwidth " tab in TS, it may need to be set higher than default.

Me Again

Sneaky Thanks for the link to the drivers. I'm going to try re-installing them again to see if that works. As for the dxdiag yeah you can in vista but as it runs dx10 you can't do all the usual test like you can in dx9. It just tells you everything is working fine(pretty useless really)

I'll let you know how I get on after the re-install

Frank Whichplantronics set is it you have. I may have to give the little lady a tickle and see if she give's lol

My last doorstop has RealTek onboard sound, and I had a similar problem when I first used it.

1.Sometimes the most basic thing will really dick with you: Is the headset connected correctly. If USB it's not an issue, but if you have two 1/8" mini plugs be sure they're plugged into the right jacks. If color coded all the better. The Mic must be plugged into the "mic" jack, and the output (green) should be plugged into your "fwd speaker out" jack.

2. As previously suggested, make sure drivers are the latest.

3. As Sneaky said, the "Direct Sound" setting always seems to work best.

4. If your mic works fine in other apps, hunker down and try using different codecs in the Sound Settings section. If it's a software issue, getting a new headset won't help.

Well did a re-install of the sound drivers and now the front panel audio jacks wont work at all so now I cant even use the headsets never mind the mic LOL. I have tried everything but the bloody front jacks wont respond.

Wouldn't mind but I got rid of a soundblaster live card from my old machine two months ago. What a mistika to maka.

Well After hours of messing about with drivers and such I finally got my old headset and mic upto a standard where finally I can be heard =D]

Tested what setting work best and was told by mike and others that they could hear me alot better than before.

Dropped the latency setting and bit rate settings in TS and had to roll back the audio driver to the much older R1.55 set which seems to have done the trick. Going to download the power strip software that gadji and mike suggested and see if that helps some more.

Sorry Frank no more robot voice mate  I know you will be upset

Cheers for all your help guys
