File path question

Post by :FI:WillieOFS » Sat Feb 23, 2008 3:27 am

I still get timeouts when I try to join a game via H/L. I'm running 4.08m and trying to join like servers. My game is currently running on my S: drive. I'm wondering if it will have to be on the C: drive.

I've not had a chance to try to join a game via an IP address, so I don't know if it will work that way or not either.

I'm running out of weird ideas to try......

...don't think it would make a difference what drive you're operating from. I haven't heard of any restrictions in HL regarding that.

You probably already know that sometimes the ":FI:" is not acceptable to some servers and must be replaced by "=FI=", but I'm sure you already tried that.

Attempt to join via IP address. If that doesn't work either your firewall needs to be tweaked, or...

anybody else?

Willie,

I have notice something a little 'funny' with HL when i change the location of my 1946 directory. I have two versions of 1946, mod and no mod. To go from one version to the other, i change the name of the current directory to something else, then rename the version i want to use as 'IL-2 Sturmovik 1946'. When I run the game from the 1946 icon on the desktop, the correct version comes up. However, HL will call up the other version...even though its in a different directory. The corrective action is to go into HL, right click on 'connect'' and search for the 'il2fb.exe' in the correct directory. It sounds silly because it will show the same directory and exe file that you were probably already using, but it will work correctly now.

H/L points to the correct (4.08m) unmodded installation. I've got version of this game back to 4.04m and modded and etc. etc.

I've tried connecting with the computer in the DMZ and it still times out.

Strange..

Willie,

RGR, my HL also pointed to the correct directory. I still had to have it 'search' again, still apparently pointed to the same diectory, but it loaded the correct version.

Check whether game is in folder "Ubi Soft" (pre '46)or "Ubisoft" (from '46 )

Stuff in the Ubisoft folder looks like 4.08m patch update. Probably created its own default file path.

Does splash screen show 4.07 or 4.08m?

If its 4.07 , just paste the contents into the root folder.

Oooohh, now we see whats going on. I recommend you save your 'paint scheme' folder, reinstall 1946 into the default location, and paste the 'paint scheme' folder into the new installation. Archive the entire new install in another drive and 'mod' only one .

Splash screen shows 4.08m when it starts via the .exe or H/L..

My C: drive is rather small and dedicated primarily to XP.. Maybe that was a mistake on my part, but I've got LOTS of real estate so I made LOTS of partitions..... I've got 2 IDE drives and one SATA. That S: is on the SATA. My thinking was it would read a bit faster than the other drives.. :?

Are U trying to join with :FI: ?
That doesn't work - you have to have =FI= or whatever to join the server.

Mikester helped me with the same problem online today

I'm building up my old PC to play online while the new one is in repair

Nope, changed my H/L login to =FI=Willie. I can't join any server through H/L at this time. All I get is the game start, and then the "timed out".
