Speeding Up FireFox
At least some of this info was posted by Willie some time back, but I ran across it in the recent (April '07) issue of CPU magazine and felt it needs to be shared again.
First, open FireFox and type "about:config" in the Address Bar and hit ENTER, which will display the equivalent of FireFox's Registry.
Next, type "http" in the Filter Field, click OK and this will display only those entries with "http" within them.
Then, do the following:
1. Change "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to "true" by double-clicking it .
2. Change "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to "8" by double-clicking on it and entering "8" in the pop-up window.
3. Change "network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server" to "8".
4. Change "network.http.max-connections" to "48".
5. Change "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to True".
6. Change "network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy" to "8".
7. Right-Click anywhere in the screen, and choose NEW>INTEGER. Enter the Preference Name as: nglayout.initialpaint.delay, click OK, then enter the value as "0" (that's Zero or Zed). Restart FireFox to enable the changes.
This should speed up the boot time and access to web pages.
It worked for me!

Forgot to mention...
...that same issue of CPU also provided a link to a backup utility that saves all kinds of stuff in FireFox and Thunderbird. It's free-ware, and works!
Go here: http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com
Saves a lot of time cutting/copying and pasting files.
