Hmmmm...

Post by AltarBoy » Tue Mar 20, 2007 12:55 am

Remember the overheating problems I had? Well I uninstalled the ATI drivers and re-installed them and now no beeps from the CPU. However, the temperature still reads around 97 degrees Celsius. Can someone explain what the heck's going on?

Maybe some of that hair that fell off of your head got sucked up into the case?

:p

I'm using an app called ATI Tool and set the fan to run at 100%. The temperature stands at around 75 degrees Celsius when no games are played. But since I re-installed the card's drivers the beeping stopped and no shut down.

etc! Are you overclocking with this?

Problems were possibly connected to your VPU recover settings in CCC.

75c sound too high for not playing games.

My card sits at around 45c when not running IL2 and reaches around 60c when running IL2.

My guess is you've got cooling problems but I don't know much about computers.

Try running with the side off your case and see if its any cooler.

What's the ambient room temperature there anyway?

Hum a few more notes, maybe we can guess that tune.

Right now I'm thinkin' it's CRY ME A RIVER. :p

Silly question, is the heatsink secure on the vid card? Is it clean? Ambient air temps can be a LOT of your problem as well. :(

Right now the Card's temp is 66 degrees Celsius. It's the Dry Season here and it is very hot. I removed the CPU fan and cleaned it out. The thermal paste needs re-applying. I did remove the side panel of the case. Like I said before I re-installed the latest ATI driver and that seemed to stabilize the temp so far. I'm thinking of buying another 88mm fan and attaching it close to the card. I can now play games without getting beeps and system shut down.

Um,...moving on to the weather..

At least LOMAC is running ok on the system. Temp running between 60-70 degress Celsius on the CPU. About 20 on the card.

All the temps mentioned so far sound very very high IMO. I think you have some airflow issues. Wanna post a picture of your case with the side off so we can have a look?

For me general rule of thumb on air cooling:

CPU<55C
GPU<75C

I have been using watercooling for this reason for years. For water:

CPU<45C
GPU<50C

Don't have a digi cam on me now, Doc. But do you think I should buy another fan and place it near the card and add thermal paste on the heat sink? Inside of the case it looks like someone threw a frag grenade in there. :?
