SBLive! or Onboard Sound?

Post by :FI:Murph » Wed Oct 04, 2006 1:40 am

It occurs to me that since I've gone USB with my stick and pedals, I might not need to use my SB Live! sound card. My MB has ADI AD1980 SoundMax 6 Channel audio CODEC (currently disabled). Is this likely to sound better than the old SB? Will it use more or less CPU resources? I'm guessing the CPU has to communicate with either one as a separate entity.

i think you might check if your MB has additional usb slots to be connected with some pin connection and located on the front panel of a case or its rear...

there are also PCI usb adaptors...

yes Murph, it would use less CPU power to use the onboard sound. depending on how much CPU power you have, you would only notice a difference if you were using a CPU less than 2gb.

Seems to be working OK- but I can't install the SoundMax drivers for the onboard sound. I keep getting an error message saying: "Driver not found! Reboot your system and run this setup again".
Only rebooting does'nt help at all. Niether did trying the latest drivers from the ASUS website.
