Lighting up other peoples lives

Post by Sparky » Wed Nov 30, 2005 9:08 pm

Dear Unkle Fenster

I want to send my friend in the US some light bulbs to brighten up his life as he was moaning that things were so dull over there. I understand they only use a 120 volt circuit... would a UK 240 volt 60 watt bulb dazzle them?... and what could they do with the spare 120 volts?

The bulb will probably not be giving much light.

I have to agree with my friend LF on this one.

They have a different regime... oops... sorry... system for their power supply that comes in 110 volt format.

Remember VHS and Betamax? Well 110V is like Betamax. Seemed like a good idea at the time - you know when they were trying to be different from the 'home country' or motherland, if you prefer. Now it's too late, so yes - you are quite right - they have a rather dull world.

My sugestion is that you send them some torches - the kind that come on the end of a stick and are made from paraffin (kerosene?) and rags.

My guess is that they will all join together with their friends and march to a wee grassy knoll known as Capitulation Hill with a wide array of pointy farm implements and call for their latest creation to find a new place to dwell.

Of course - you could always just send him a few dollars and he could buy a new table lamp at WallMart....

;)

Hope this help young man!

So does C4, quite nicely. I hear it smells like roasting almonds.
